Worried about retained shed

Hi all,

Our Mickey is a young dragon (< 6 months old) that came to us with eye trauma early January. When he was at the pet store a larger dragon got into a tussle and poked at his right eye. The other day I noticed as some of his last shed was coming off and a right eye looking back at me through some scar tissue!

That fear started to turn to dread when that other retained shed started coming off and his skin was bright yellow. While Mickey is typically yellowish (a pale yellow), this area was a VERY yellow color. Is this "yellow fungus" that I've read about?

We are seeing an exotic vet on Friday, but I thought I'd get y'all opinion on what it could be.

I'm new to owning a dragon. So for reference, Mickey currently lives alone in a typical starting bearded dragon kit that I'm slowly trying to make better as I read and learn more. He has a healthy appetite of mealworms, waxworms, and greens, loves his two UV lamps (one of each type) and his rock perch, has healthy looking poops, and seemingly a normal amount of energy when he runs around.

Do you all think I'm being overly worried, does his skin look bad as a residual from the trauma, or do you think something else is going on that I didn't see?

Thank you!

After giving Mickey some time to bask and relax, his head is looking better and some of his normal coloration is appearing. Still taking him back to the vet, but I'm not freaking out as much.

Thank you, I tried using Google Photo, but I guess something was off.

Here is with the shed still on (and his right eye starting to show from under some scarring)

Here is when the shed came off showing the yellowing.

And here is half a day later looking better.

He is looking even better today. I look back at the pictures the day he came home to our family, and I'm seeing the retained shed even then, so I don't know how long this condition has been going on. I'm guessing that the scales under the shed weren't growing like they should so it may take time for that side of his head to look much better. Can't wait to hear what the doc says, but I'm hopeful.

The latest photo certainly looks like an improvement. Since he suffered such a severe injury, it may be that the scales around his eye and that side of his head just aren't forming and shedding properly anymore due to scar tissue as you mentioned. Certainly worth having a vet check it out, but it's encouraging that it looks better after some of the skin has shed away.

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
