So our vet called me this morning to let me know that Toffee tested positive for 3 different types of parasites. One of them he hadn’t seen in a bearded dragon before, so he consulted with another reptile vet from our local zoo.

At any rate, Toffee is on metronidazole once a week for the next 3 weeks. I also got his uvb mounted inside his terrarium. I’m really hoping this makes a big difference for him. He’s been having such a rough go of things.

Here’s some pictures of him from healthier times:

And some showing his current, grumpy colors:

Wish us luck!!

Wow, that's rough on poor Toffee, do you remember what the 3 parasites are ? Hopefully he gets all cleared out, he looks like a sweet boy. :) BTW, he did look quite overweight in the first pic so at least if this affects his appetite he has some extra weight he can spare to lose. He's still very handsome though !

You're totally right- that picture makes him look like a total chunk! I'm not sure why, he's always been a little guy. This picture is from literally two weeks earlier:

About the parasites- rather than try to type out something I don't know how to spell, I'm just going to paste the results below.

So, its the tritrichomonas that is a little strange. From what I've read on the web (grain of salt), its usually found in small mammals and not really transmitted by insects. They can get it from drinking contaminated water or ingesting mice or rats that are infected. Although I know they can eat pinkies, I've never given him one. And he has only ever had city tap water from Southern California, so I'm not sure how the heck he got it in the first place. I know he didn't have it when we got him, cause we had to do a fecal back then, because he was absolutely overrun with coccidia. :dontknow:

Anyway, I have lots of hope that this is going to go well. I don't think he's feeling well tonight after his first dose, cause he's all plastered to the wall, which I haven't seen him do since he was a baby beardie.

Aw, feeling loudsy after meds, some beardies really hate them but then a vet visit can stress them out too. As for trichomonas there have been cases of beardies here that had it [ if you Google it will come up ] An explanation for how the feeder insects may get them is that it's quite possible that mice get around the insect facility or pet store just like they at times get in our stores + homes. So they could leave droppings and contaminate things in general by getting in with the feed or the feeder insects. Flagyl [ metronizadole ] will hopefully take care of it.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
