Aging or Sick?

Hey, guys!

I've got a question about my little bud. I'm trying to figure out if he's sick, or possibly going downhill due to old age. He was too active to be in full brumation, but he still lost some weight (visual check), then he started getting lethargic. Yesterday, he didn't eat all of his crickets and his grip has been somewhat weak. (He usually sits on my shoulder but I had to put him in my lap because he was sliding.)

I gave him some love and a bath and put him back in his tank, but he didn't hang on to his log very well. He opened his mouth at me twice, but he wasn't terribly black and beardy - I don't know if he was angry or what. But his breathing sounds OK, no squeaking or other yuck.

I'll be honest; I haven't been a perfect beardie owner recently - my rabbits have been trying really hard to cross the rainbow bridge and one of them did. So, he hasn't been getting the baths that he should and I haven't been gut-loading the crickets. Go easy on me.

I'll give you the details:

How old is your dragon? About 12+
How long have you had your dragon? About 11+ years
What is the sex of your dragon? Male
What size enclosure do you have your dragon in? 40gal wide breeder
What type substrate do you have on the bottom of your tank? Repticarpet
Do you use UVB lights? Yes
How old is your UVB bulb? 5 months?
How close can your dragon get to the UVB? about 6"
Do you use a separate basking bulb? Yes, 100w white bulb
What are the basking temps? About 98 - 100 depending on ambient temperature
What is the cool side temp? About 75
Thermometer? Stick on for general, laser periodically for specifics
Where exactly are you taking your basking temps? On his log
Do you use a heat rock or heat pad? No
What do you feed your dragon? Please be specific. Crickets, mealworms, yellow squash, bok choi, mustard greens
How often do you feed and what time do you feed (morning, afternoon, night)? Generally, every other day in the evening
Do you gutload (feed) your crickets, worms, etc? No, I've got a supplement I use about 2x per month
Is your dragon having regular bowel movements (poops)? He's never been particularly regular but always healthy
Do you bath your dragon? How often? Yes, recently once a month but I know I need to do more.
Do you mist your dragon or offer water other than in the bath? Mist yes, water no. He doesn't drink it.
Have you gotten a vet check and fecal done? Not recently.
Does your dragon share an enclosure with another dragon? No, but he does share a room and he can see her.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Your UVB is a what brand and bulb tube or coil? The feeders should be fed every day so when you feed the dragon hes getting nutrients 2 x per month is not enough - I am surprised they are still alive that long-- I would get a probe so you can get better accurate temps the infrared is good but its good to have a probe as well --- him not being able to hang on is telling me hes weak --- seeing the other dragon in the room makes them stress out --- I would get it situated so he cannot see her anymore --

Thank you for the response!
This is his bulb: LINK

I buy feeders about every week; so, I don't keep them in bulk. The mealworms especially don't seem to mind, but if I'm keeping crickets, I do throw in a carrot or some greens. But I can definitely increase the dusting and gut-loading.

I've had another dragon in the room with him for over a year now. He had an issue when they were next to each other, even when there was something between them and he couldn't see her; so, I moved her across the room. He seemed to chill out considerably after that. Is it possible that he could get re-irritated because he's not feeling well?

The UVB is one of the worst on the market-------------- Please get rid of it --- you need to replace w/ this ASAP ---- here is some info on that bulb and what you should get
Which UVB light should I use?
The best UVB light is a ReptiSun 10.0 fluorescent tube HO (Or Arcardia 12% in the UK). Compact or coil bulbs do not emit the proper amount of UVB light for a bearded dragon, and should not be used. Other brands, such as the Zilla Desert Series and ReptiGlo have been known to cause eye problems and other health issues with bearded dragons, and should be avoided. The reason that some UVB lights (Zilla, ReptiGlo, coils/compacts, ect.) are considered dangerous is because the wavelength of UVB that they emit is shorter and more intense than the wavelength of the "safe" lights (ReptiSun, Arcadia). UVB lights should be replaced every 6 months. The T5’s are a strong bulb and only need to be replaced once a year – the T 8 every 6 months--- where as the T 8 are not as strong—they need to be placed inside the tank the T 5 10.0 bulb approx 12-15 inches from basking spot – the T 8 approx 8-10 inches from basking spot—the cover needs to be off the bulb for full effect of the UVB rays--
This is why your dragon is acting the way he is

It seems very sudden, and I have been replacing it at the recommended intervals. But I'll definitely change it tomorrow and see if he doesn't perk up. Thank you!

You need to get a fixture w/ a reflector --- so the rays are shining downward toward him

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
