Bearded dragon going into brumation too early

I adopted a baby bearded dragon 2 months ago, making her 3 months now. She had settled in well, eating and being okay with handling, but recently she has stopped eating all together. Its been over a week since she ate. She sleeps basically all day under her hammock, ( but keeps warm) and whenever I do take her out, she is active, alert and runs around. She rejects all food I try give her, greens, fruit and bugs. I've also only ever seen her shed once since I got her? I do give her baths sometimes anyway.

Im very worried because she isn't eating which also means she isn't getting any calcium I don't want her getting metabolic bone disease and i'm on the verge of taking her to a vet. She's showing all the signs of brumation. It is winter here in New Zealand but I know she is way too young.

Can someone help me out, I've only had geckos before and this is so very new for me.

Please post pics of tank and lighting --- the lighting in the tank is crucial --- she should be eating every day and not stop completely--- and yes she is too young to brumate --- relocation stress is also the issue but to completely stop eating is NOT --

I agree she is too young to be brumating, she definitely wouldn't be brumating at this age.

We need to go over your setup with you like Karrie suggested.
Can you give us some specific details about your setup?

Specifically, we need to know what bulb you are using for uvb.
What are your basking surface temps?
Cool side temps?
And what are you measuring those temps with?

Can you go over her typical daily diet up until this point.

I agree pictures would be nice to see.

She should be eating daily because she's at a stage where she should be growing fairly quickly (as all baby animals do) however, it takes longer than a week to develop MBD. As important (perhaps moreso) is proper temps and UV-B exposure. If these aren't right, some dragons won't eat because they can't digest/metabolize properly. Also, do not feed bananas or other foods high in phosphorus (calcium/phosphorus imbalance can also cause/contribute to MBD).

Hi! sorry for getting back so late. She started eating briefly again for a few days (very little though) and I thought it was over, but she has stopped eating again. I don't feed her any high phosphorus foods like banana so I don't think thats the problem.

The hot side in her tank is usually 25 at night and around 28 or 30 in the day. I have a 100 W infrared bulb for the day and a thermometer. I turn on a moonlight 50 W bulb for night :

Her typical daily diet before she stopped eating was 12 meal worms or wax worms (mixed it up) and or sometimes she had crickets. She would also gorge on parsley, it was her favourite, along with clover. I'd also leave apple or pear in her tank every morning and there would be some pieces gone. Typically she ate quite well with a variety of foods. She did not slow down with her eating, just randomly stopped one day. When she started eating again for 3 days, she would only eat maybe 1 or 2 wax worms and again she has now stopped eating completely again. Her bugs are always dusted in calcium and she had a water bowl she would jump into and drink, along with me misting her sometimes.

Hi there ! Has the baby been pooing all this time ? It's good that he likes clover + parsley, can you get rocket [ arugula ] as well ? Your basking temp. is waaaaay too cold, needs to be around 40 C. And sad to say, the red bulb is not beneficial for beardies, they need a crisp white light , not a red one. It's not the new keeper's fault when they but these, it's the company that pushes these worthless , unsuitable bulbs to make big money.BTW, the analog thermometers do not keep the right temp., you'll need a digital/probe one to get an accurate reading. It's hard to believe that a 100 watt light would only get to 86F under the basking area . But if the temp. is too cool, this will greatly affect his ability to digest food, so that's one huge culprit. Be sure to get a hotter heat bulb or an extra one alongside this one. And I don't see a uvb bulb there unless I missed it ? That's also something beardies can't do without. Another problem is he may be impacted from mealworms and/or the substrate. Mealworms are hard to digest, especially if the temp. is too low so cut those out for now. Get the temps. up higher ASAP, it can't wait and try giving him natural laxatives like applesauce, baby food squash, green bean, prunes, sweet potato and a drop of olive oil mixed in. Extra water in the syringe as well. Hope to hear some progress with the little guy.
