Sometimes they curve like that. It's not likely to cause an issue if it doesn't get too long. Having some relatively rough surfaces to walk on can help. As far as trimming goes, I just do that when the sharp tip of the nail gets too long and starts scratching. You don't want to cut above the sharp tip of the nail because it can be painful.
