Nail Polish??

Hi All!

So what is going on with the nail polish on the parietal eye for females, supposedly to stop them from producing eggs?? I can't find anything anywhere about it, and I've now seen two threads recently about this being done-or recommended- by a vet. Is this a thing that is happening now, or is there a chance that both these dragons were seen by the same vet? (I know, extremely unlikely, but sometimes it can be a very small world...)

Just wondering if anyone else knows more about it, because I must say it seems like a load of hogwash to me, and maybe even potentially dangerous...

I've never heard of that... is it on FB or something??

I've only heard of covering the paretial eye for experimental purposes. I don't think it would be dangerous (aside possibly from chemicals) but it would certainly mess with their circadian rhythm and doesn't seem appropriate.

HOKUM. Seriously. I got into it with someone who had done this to their dragon and I was so upset and sad for the little girl. Why would anyone put a toxic chemical on the head of an animal?!

I've never heard until just today. I'm sure that it's not good for them, probably harmful whether physically or psychologically. Here's what one chemist wrote about the presumed safety of " non " toxic polish. It seems that they may still contain toxic ingredients.

So there are two threads on this site right now, I think I remember seeing you on this one, YoursTruly, it's called "Hello Vitra", and the newer one is "Brumating or Sick!?! PLEASE HELP"

Glad it's not just me that hasn't heard of this craziness...

Yeah it's insane. I remember that thread very well. The OP never responded. How could anyone think this is okay?!

Ya, I remember that one to. That's the one where I asked if by chance did the vet have a necklace of bones around his neck and, a grass skirt or just webbed feet?

LOL.....bonafide witch doctor. But sadly this is probably going to become more common. Hopefully people will Google it + see the potential health risks mentioned here.

Bloody fantastic!! :D

Well, thanks for that! I knew there was a reason to keep sticking around here! Hahaha... I'm glad most of us still retain a sense of humor!

I've been severely put off by a certain "king of all that is dragon-related" and "unable to communicate effectively without coming off as rude and pretentious, knower of all things," recently, but my faith in the folk here has been reaffirmed by the present company, and I most sincerely appreciate it!

As for the nail polish thing... Where in the everlasting heck did it come from, and why does it seem to be proliferating?? I am always and actively willing to learn new things, but come on...

I will readily and adamantly admit that I am not an expert in any way on our dragons, and I learn fascinating new things every day, even at least two dozen dragons in. I do, however, spend inordinate amounts of time with highly educated environmental specialists and ethology experts, as well as a fair few biochemists. I just can not find anything at all that would tell me that it is okay to cover a specialized organ that is used for biological purposes with anything, let alone something that is a chemical compound and, more often than not, toxic in some way (or even just unnatural!)....

If it turns out to be something experimental, then please, for the love of Pete, don't put that on unsuspecting pet owners that only want to do what's best for their pet. Including myself, we all want to do what is best for our scale babies. But if this bizarre information is coming from licensed professionals, the general population will take it at face value, and that's how we get these strange Old Wive's Tales, like butter on a burn (for example)!!

Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
