My year old beardie is about 14inch long. He eats around 30 crix a day plus veggies. I give him a multivatim and gutload the crix, sometimes use calcium dust on the prey but not usually since i gutload. used to use phoenix worms might switch back to them.
I was using a reptisun 5.0 and just got a reptisun 10.0 last week, but im worried hes not getting enough calcium because he's small for his age and has a little kink near the end of his tail. I have a hard time getting him to sit under his uvb rod, sometimes after i put him on the log under his uvb rod he'll just move a few minutes later. How do i tell he's getting enough calcium?

Hello,

Good to hear you switched to the Reptisun 10 tube bulb. How close can he get to it & is there any screen or plastic in between him & the light?
Is your basking light directly alongside of the tube bulb?
How often do you use calcium supplementation, just once a week or so? The gutload is not enough for his calcium requirements. You will need to dust once daily, 4-5 times per week using the multivitamin only 1-2 times a week.
The kink in his tail is indicative of hypocalcemia. I would try lowering the basking spot if he is possibly having some trouble or not wanting to bask as much. He might be having some strength issues. Make sure the tube UVB is within 6-8 inches from him.

Do you have any pictures of him?

He can sit on his log so his head is about 4 inches from the tube, thruough the screen. Basking light is right next to the tube bulb, i thought if i gutloaded i didnt have to use the powder, oh shoot! I'll start using the powder. I give him the multivitamin twice a week

I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
