Taming a 5 month old ?

I got my beardie a couple of months ago (he was around 2 months old). I was able to hold him for longer periods of time with little difficulty from him. Then, I got busy with school work and could not hold him for more than a couple minutes a day, so he went back to this "untamed" state. I can pet him and move him around inside the cage with no problem. He isn't aggressive at all, and does not even flex his beard or black-beard.
The problem I have is, when I try to hold him outside of his viv, he struggles and tries to get away. I know some of them are just very curious, but his beard starts to darken. He still doesn't show any other signs of aggression, just tries to get away. I know that some of them take longer to tame, especially if you leave them be for a couple of months. I have been trying to work with him, though I was just wondering about a good way to do so.
I have watched videos on how to tame these guys, and everything just says to hold them until they calm down. Not too tight, of course, while supporting all of the limbs while making him feel like he isn't trapped. Is there a good way to tame these guys? Am I "hurting" the process by taming him this way? I have been taking him out right before the lights go off and he sleeps very nicely and enjoys cuddling.
What do you guys recommend? He is still young, so could it just be curiosity or energy? I want to be able to cuddle with him the way you all seem to! I also would like to hold him often. Thank you!

Hiccup he is 6 and Blaze is 4
He's young it's gonna take time- handling him everyday approaching from side putting a piece of your clothing something w/ your smell on it in his tank/ hide and feeding by hand will all get him used to you and most of all trust+ -- patience is key-- same routine so he knows what expect- cleaning the tank w/the feeding will get him used to hands in the tank--- mine is 7 months old and I have had him for 5 months now and he has been something else- biting hissing running flaring up you name it--- he is just now letting us pick him up w / out the constant flaring and trying to bite--- as they get older they tend to mellow out--- personality of the dragon also plays a part as well-- just be patient- keep working w/ him

Hello,

They are so precious at this age! It does take some time for them to bond to you & trust you
but you can do it!
Try letting him go to sleep on you at night, using a soft fleece blankie to wrap him up in so he
gets used to you.
They really do calm down most of the time, when they get a little older.

ZaRDoZ is 4½ months, but it's (I guess?) reassuring that this may be... par for the course.

At what age do their beards start turning black? We've been seeing a lot of "puffing" and some bearding when trying to pick him up, but no black--just a little orange sometimes. I figure he may not be old enough, but I haven't been able to find a specific age or range. If it matters, I think he's hypomelanistic--only because of clear nails--he sure can fire/darken up.

Is it possible for a dragon with clear nails to not be hypomelanistic? :?:

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
