So, Cheese often licks my hand, or arm. Is he tasting/identifying me? Is that normal?

When ever I go to get Hiccup he always licks - and since he does this every time I just put my hand in front of him and wait for him to do that and then pick him up - not sure if hes seeing who I am or what but its seems natural
