Beardies closing their eyes?

I keep hearing that when you pet your bearded dragon and they close their eyes it means they’re in discomfort or afraid. When I pet the top of his head during the day he doesn’t close his eyes, where as at night time when he’s sleepy and I pet the top of his head he closes his eyes as if it’s putting him to sleep. If he was scared of head pets then wouldn’t he close his eyes during the day too?

Hello,

They will close their eyes oftentimes when petting their heads or rubbing their head & eye
area. As long as you are gentle, it should be a comforting experience for them when you do
pet their heads.
Since they have their 3rd eye or parietal eye on top of their heads they can get scared if you
go over the top of them too quickly until they get used to being handled more.
I have personally never experienced any negative behavior from any of our dragons while
petting them on their heads. I don't think he is scared but in the evening, he is ready for sleep
so if you are gentle it is probably relaxing to him.
Hope this helps.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
