I have a big male beardie that's a little over 1yr old & I've had him since he was a tiny baby. He's always been my laid back, let me do anything to him, momma's boy of a beardie. Recently his attitude is changing. He doesn't want me to hold him as much, puffs out & gets defensive when he's out, not coming to me like he used to. He always loved being outside last summer & when I brought him outside the other day he freaked out. Panicked, turned black, mouth open, & tried to bite me. I'm still getting him out & handling him but he just seems like a teenager that's irritated with his mom!! Is this normal maturing behavior? Any suggestions? Thanks!!

Yep, That is normal beardie cranky teen phase behaviours. Also since it's spring it's also mostly breeding season behaviours as well.
I Have two male beardies and they both have been acting crazy due to breeding season. They have been sporting black beards, Bobbing their heads, Stomping around and showing off to me that they're the boss. Unfotunately this behaviour normally lasts around two or three months but sometimes longer.
I Hope your beardie starts getting nicer soon!
Mainly just holding him, cuddling him, and hand feeding him will get him more used to you.
