Beardie trying to climb wall??

Hi my name is Audrey, my bearded dragon is named Beastie. Earlier today Beastie was scratching and I think trying to climb up the walls of his viv, so I tried to take him out but he bit me for the second time since I got him and he bit my mom. This is not his usual behavior. After my mom got him out of his viv and gave him to me I stroked his back and he calmed down. When I figured he was calm again, I let him climb out of the blanket he was wrapped in and then he began to scratch at the wall as if he were trying to climb up it. He repeated that a few times and ran the length of the bed still trying to find a way up the wall. After a few minutes he came back over to me and fell asleep on my shoulder. Is this a phase all or most bearded dragons go through or should I be worried? Also Beastie is my first lizard ever!

How old is Beastie? It's common for them to scratch at the tank to get out. It could be because the temperatures or lighting are off and he wants out, or it could just be curiosity. Since he was climbing at the wall outside the tank too, it sounds like he is just active and curious. The biting may be because he is worked up about something and more defensive than usual, or because you startled him. I'd just give him some space for now and let him roam around a bit (well supervised) when he starts scratching the tank to get out.
