My boy is SPOILED rotten!!!

So yesterday I bought Otto a new terrarium. It's not as large as I wanted but it is the biggest I could get in the area without getting a fish tank or custom order. 250.00$ later...he got an Exo Terra 40 gallon LARGE/WIDE terrarium.

Also bought him a new ZooMed UV bulb/light for nearly another 100$...bulb not included. Bulb was 45$. That was Yesterday's fun. Then after posting about it, someone pointed out that the UVB bulb should be INSIDE the terrarium not on top. That posed a new challenge. I also had to put up wallpaper, which is wrapping paper, to enclose the back and sides because he was freaking out.

And that brings us to today. I bought him 2 green carpets, had to trim them a bit. Also bought a new heat lamp, ceramic within a wire fixture, hung above his hammock. That was another 45 on the ceramic light and another 15 for the arm to hold it up and another 25 for the lamp. Also bought a new fake cactus and a LARGE drift wood stump which weighs 10 LBS. The cactus was 25, the stump was 40. Are ya seeing the $$ for my spoiled boy?

Not to mention last week I bought a new 51$ point and shoot temp gauge so I could easily check what he/the room is sitting at.

All this to make my boy happy and cozy. I might buy another large climb thing to switch out the tree stump at some point but...for now he is loving the stump. I wish someone would spoil me like this and fix up my tiny room with the nice stuff I'd like.

I still want to get a tiny cow skull decoration for the wall and maybe a tiny cowboy hat? I know he won't give a flying...but I think it'd be cute. I know the carpets should be brown but meh...nothing in that terrarium is matching. Disco wallpaper, stumps, sticks, cactus' and a few rocks I've had in my family for idk how long.

The trick was putting it all together, there was no way to hang the light fixture inside the terrarium without making a few minor changes. Yes there was a place at the back of the lid to put wires through but nothing to hold the actual fixture up. How'd I do it? Gardener's twist tie wire! It's strong, thin and holds nicely. I pushed the tip of a pair of scissors into the top of the terrarium one over one beam and another over the other and one more in the middle. Then after those were tight I realized the fixture still hung in a strange angle. Fix for that was another twist tie across the front beam tied to the other twist tie in the middle.

To put the arm on the side that already had wallpaper it was a case of trace the mount onto the paper where it was going to be placed and an exact o knife to cut it out. worked out nicely if I do say so. I know I didn't req the arm to hang the lamp but I figured it'd be safer that way.

Would I recommend buying all at once? NO. I only really pushed my $$ because I needed a distraction. My cat is in the vet emerge. Has been over the past week and a half. So this has been a fantastic distraction for me and perhaps will give some of you an idea on what you can do without custom or fish tank.

*if you want to see a pic of how I put the UVB fixture in just ask*

Here's what it looks like

Looks nice. Matching is boring! I want a front opening vivarium but they only come in the size 40 X-tra large and wide which my princess already has a 40 xtral large and wide so I can’t see spending on the same size. I will probably have to hunt on line to find a larger size viv with front opening. And I agree in my next life I want to come back and be my own pet. :blob5: she gets hand fed everything, I do everything I can to make sure she has the perfect temps, have her favorite foods and greens, and I am constantly on the lookout for anything I think she would be comfy on or would love climbing on. I think I am learning what being a Beardie slave means  but I love her

Loll. Beardy slave is the word. My boy has me cleaning poop, washing soiled toys and carpet. Demands out time and throws hissy fits if I don't obey.

It goes together, to me anyway. When you need to replace the uvb, you can go to lightyourreptiles.com. We got a fixture with a good Mercury Vapor bulb included. They have 80 watt fixture sets, 100 watt and a bigger one but I can't remember what. We have this fixture that holds the uvb holder fixture over the basking spot and it has a flat part that you put under the tank. It works great. We got the fixture for a 100 watt and a 80 watt bulb because where we live it gets hot in the summer so we need to have a uvb that doesn't put too much heat in our girls' tanks. If you have any questions for him, the phone # is 1-207-588-7210. If he can't answer right away, leave a message, he gets back to you as soon as he can. He has all sorts of uvb bulbs but I went with him when I needed a quality uvb that you can't find locally. The ones that sell at the local pet store (petwsmart) that, from all I've heard aren't as good as others.

Ahaha my girl demanded to come out but when I got her out all she wanted to do was go back in. And when I put her back in all she wanted was to come out again :banghead: and if I cut her greens she refuses to eat them. I have to rip all her greens into appropriately sized pieces and hand feed them to her

Lmao. My boy won't chase food or go to his bowl. I am starting to make him do the work. I may have to clean his poop, bring his food to his home and entertain him. But hand feeding? Nope.

Hera just got a 55 gallon tank (she’s 3mos) and I’m custom designing and building the decor.... she also refuses to eat if I don’t pick her up and cuddle with her first, and when she’s in the living room she somehow makes the cats stay in the kitchen.... spoiled beardies indeed

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
