Colitis actually is quite serious, if that is what he thinks it is. That should be treated.
My sister looked a bit baffled when I mentioned the collitis - she couldnt understand why she wasnt being treated for it. The vet just said as her bm were normal now and, as there had not been any more blood passed, that the collitis had cleared up on its own - I, being completely clueless, didnt think anything of it. Im still waiting for the x-ray - the vet said he would email me yesterday but im still waiting. Im getting myself so stressed out - even the guy in the reptile shop is trying to find a vet for me as he really wants me to get a second opinion!

Il keep you updated on how things go! Thanks again for all the support!

Hello,

Great, definitely let me know if you get any news from the vet. I hope that it did clear up on its' own. We need to make sure though so it doesn't become chronic & really make her ill.
How is she doing today?

She was absolutely fine today! All bright and energetic - and she seems to have forgiven me for leaving her at the vet! I spoke to another vet today - not a herp specialist but one who does, from time to time, see some beardies. He said general symptoms for colitis are mucous in the bm, blood in the bm, solid bm followed by a lot of liquid etc.... he said he would be inclined to think that Abu has perhaps had a little iceberg lettuce mixed in with her salad causing the runny poop as she is not consistently showing any of the symptoms - her bm have been completely normal since that odd one on Sunday! He also suggested that if I had fed her adult hoppers recently a leg may have scratched her as she passed it - he said if we could not find anyone else to see her in the next week or so he would happily free up a few hours to see her and perhaps do an ultrasound (i think thats what he said) and some blood work. He wants me to call back early next week to let him know if I will need an appointment and to give him a list of what I want done with her.

I do, however, have a lead regarding a herp vet who may be working in a surgery pretty close to where we are. I will be calling them tomoro morning and hopefully will be able to figure something out! Fingers crossed that I wont be disappointed! I will def be getting a second opinion from somewhere within the next week or so guys - im def not letting this lie!!

Hi, perhaps an ultrasound & blood work would be a good idea. Sorry that you have been given some strange info from the vets, has to really be confusing you to say the least. I think a 2nd opinion would be very helpful. That's great that she had a real good day. Thanks for the update.

One minute im confused, then im worried, then I feel quite content that shes ok and then I start my crazy cycle all over again.

Anyway, I finally received the x-ray so here it is - hopefully this works as its taken me over an hour to upload it!

I cant see any either - iv spent all day zooming in and out of the original... I took it down to the local reptile guy who says he cant see anything either - hes completely confused as he is so convinced that she is gravid!

O I also should have mentioned - the right hand side, where her body kind of sticks out from her ribs is where the vet said her fat deposits are.

Edit - Im so rude - I never even answered your question, Vicky!!! She has been absolutely fine today, pottering around and being her normal, very nosey self - she was literally following everyone around - if she couldnt see them, she moved to somewhere where she could! I even caught her basking of her own accord today - she hasnt done that in at least 2 weeks!! And she, once again, finished off 2 bowls of salad!! I feel content for the time being (for once!)

Hello,

Well, even with her scrunched over like that, her bones & her spine look fine. The lung capacity is hard to see with her bent around like that. She doesn't have any problems with her breathing, does she? I did not remember you mentioning anything about that though. The lung fields look clean & pretty even.
I realize it is hard uploading the picture & I don't know the resonance it was taken at. Some are higher than others, making them more clear to read.
I am looking at the area where the heart is but it is hard to tell whether it is enlarged or not, with her scrunched over. I don't think it is, but sometimes enlarged hearts will cause fluid retention.
The liver doesn't look enlarged on this picture.
I do think though, an ultrasound is a good idea. You can see soft tissue much better than with an X-ray. Also, if she has developing follicles, they will be soft not hard so they will be seen on the ultrasound not the X-ray. Follicles have not gone through the shelling gland & have not hardened yet so they are impossible to see on an X-ray.
Bloodwork is my next recommendation too. That will pick up on any infection she could have, or other imbalances, too.

Thanks for posting the picture of the X-ray!

Thanks for the reply Tracy - you can see much more than I can! It all just looks like a blur to me! Abu doesnt like to stay still - especially when she doesnt have anyone around to look at - hence her rather bent shape - im actually pretty relieved that they didnt sedate her!

She had a few issues a month or so ago (when I suspected a respiratory infection) but she went to a local vet for an x-ray (in a much straighter position) and her lung function was not compromised in any way - those xrays were forwarded to another vet (in England) for consultation and they said that her lungs etc were def not causing issues - the diagnoses was that Abu likes attention! I assume they would have picked up on any heart issues or could that be a recent occurence?

Out of interest how long to follicles generally take to develop? My sister (shes a trained veterinary nurse) says the sanctuary vet will let us use his ultrasound machine if I wish to go over there for her to do it - she says she did an ultrasound on a few reptiles when she was at college but cant be sure that she could identify follicles - she does, however, believe that she could easily pick out any swelling in the intestines or around the liver which would be indicative of colitis. If you think this is a bad idea, please let me know! Otherwise, any advice you have for her would be greatly appreciated!

Abu is booked into a local vet for bloodwork tomorrow...hopefully the results dont take too long. Unfortunately, as much as I would love to, I cant afford both the ultra sound and bloodwork until the end of next week so thought the bloodwork would be the number 1 priority (considering I may be able to get the ultrasound elsewhere).

Thanks again for all the advice!

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
