Hello, so this a long shot but I am going to give it a shot. My fiance and I took in a bearded dragon back in 2018, he was very healthy, he gets the correct temperatures, and lighting, we made sure we educated ourselves when it came to housing them. His meals consist of superworms; as a staple; wax worms, butter worms, horn worms; on occasion. For veggies he eats carrots, kale, bok choy, turnip greens, and fruits on occasion, blue berries, and apple.

Since December of last year, we noticed he started acting a little different; lethargic, not as interested in food, dehydrated, just not himself. So we took him to the vet and they gave us medicine for pinworms, that wasn't the issue. Then after that we went again and they give us meds for parasites, that did not work either.

Within the last month or so we noticed his tail was getting dark and dried up, dead looking. So immediately we said "OK tail rot." So we started putting his tail in betadine everyday for 5 minutes then a bit of polysporn until we could get into the vet, when we took him in they said he had KIDNEY FAILURE. So proceeded with two different meds for that. They just seamed to make things kind of worse. He was even more lethargic, no appetite, super dehyrdated, and he actually threw up two days ago in the morning before we even gave him his meds. So we took him off the meds and called the vet right away. He said there's nothing else we can really do for him; he said his kidneys are failing and it's only a matter of time.

BUT, since we took him off his meds, he seams a bit better and his tail just looks like its going further up his tail. It really looks like he has tail rot, but the vets aren't diagnosing him or listening to us when we say we really think its tail rot and we should get it amputated. Its just spreading further the longer his tail is on.

I will also note, hes I think ceased out on us at least 4 times, goes unresponsive for like 5 minutes, to the point where we think we lost him. But a we splash him with water, give him some cooler air, and he comes back. Also, within the span of these months he has been off and on eating worms, but NO veggies. Its rare that he eats worms to, usually we have to syringe feed him grub pie, water and veggies mashed, and baby food. Meds don't help him either, they just make him stop eating again; if he's started eating worms for us again that is. We dont know what else to do other than keep soaking his tail, keep him fed, hydrated, and comfortable. PLEASE HELP!!!! We don't think its kidney failure and want to help him of we can.

Stories, expirences, remedies, ANYTHING! Thanks very much!

(I'll post pictures when I found out how)

Go over the basking temps what are they and how are you taking them? NO stick ons please
UVB brand and bulb coil or tube and where in the tank is it?
The lighting in the tank controls the behavior and over all health it is extremely imperative that the dragon has this------------ NO coils for UVB please

Hi, thank you very much for responding. think I uploaded them? Hopefully it worked. His uvb is reptisun 10.0 uvb t5 ho high output and his basking light is , zoo med 150watt. The other one up there is just a regular non heated light we put in for a bit of extra light. His temps are around 85, 88 ish and his humidity is 43%. Never really changes too much. We keep an eye to make sure it don't go any higher than %40 and 90 degrees and night time our temp in the house is has a mini split that heats the house for us night time to be around 80-85 during the night. His uvb isn't coil, as you can see in the pictures, and his temp gauge isn't stick on but his tank is handmade out of wood so I just lay it on the rock behind him and move it to certain spots when I want to find the exact temp for where he is or when I'm just checking up on his temps.

Pics did not post- check to see if they downloaded click on XIMG at the top of message box if they did click on them they will post-- your T 5 is where? Top of screen inside the tank--- nite time temps are too warm if they are 80-85 at nite you want them not below 65 and not above 75- the temp you have at 80 or so us good for a sick dragon----- basking temps are 90? They should be 95-100 taken w/ digital probe thermometer

Hello,

Poor guy, I am sorry he is not doing well!
The Reptisun 10 T5 tube bulb is a great bulb. It needs to be mounted directly overhead of
him, at or around 10-12 inches, alongside of the basking bulb. Is it mounted on top of the
screen or underneath of the screen?
Were any blood tests done at all? If so, please post them so we can see the values of the
renal & liver levels especially.
Which medications did the vet give him?
What supplementations do you use for him?

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
