My son and I adopted this bearded dragon 9 months ago and we are worried that he may have injured his tail and have possible tail rot. He is approximately 3 years old and has normal eating behaviors for the most part. Any opinions / advice will be greatly appreciated.

Side note please don't mind the tank as my son is cleaning it as we speak

Hi there, yes it looks like an injury that caused that part to die. Can you find a experienced reptile vet ? Even if it needs amputated , beardies do very well + are not affected by the removal of the dead part.

Thank you for the response, have been trying to find some options in my area. Looks like they can get me in next Tuesday at a vet not to far away. Want to get the little guy taken care of. Looks like its $97 for the exam and an additional $80-$300 on top of that depending on severity. YIKES wasn't expecting this ?

You're welcome, sorry you have to deal with this but good that you found a vet quickly. Hopefully you got a stimulus check to take the sting out of the unexpected expense !

Hello,

Poor thing, how did that happen? This is a fairly common issue, but it doesn't look like the
upper portion has been affected. That's great you were able to find a vet so quickly though.
It can definitely get a little expensive.
Let us know how that goes for him & I'm sure that he will be fine.

Thanks all for the helpful responses and kind words.

Quick Update:
-The part of his tail that looks like it has a cut fell off on it's own
-We went to the vet yesterday and they amputated a little more of his tail to get rid some of the infected tissue, he has to go back in 30 days to remove sutures. Around $230 for the surgery
-Bolt is doing well after surgery and is eating and drinking fine
-We found out that Bolt is actually a female, you should have seen my son's face

Also, I'm not sure how the tail was injured and my son doesn't recall, so that's still a mystery.

That was a good outcome with the tail and they didn't charge too awful much. It's good that they cut slightly above the actual wound. But yeah, what a surprise on the " gender reveal " !

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
