First off yes I have taken it to the vet. Going for a second opinion but the can't get us in for two weeks. The vet said he was not sure but giving us supplements.

We got the Beardie late November our first. He was in a 10 gallon tank and was doing fine eating crickets and greens. Well we got the Thrive front open 40 gallon tank. Even though he was small we put him in the 40 gallon tank. He was doing fine in there for about a week. We got some Dubia Roaches and he ate between 7-9 one night. Was left 2 hours to digest. The next morning he could not move his front arms at all. They were stuck. A day later it was his back legs also. He still poops like crazy. He still has a lot of power with his tail and moves around a bit with his tail. I have been having to hand feed him which is difficult because he never really ate a lot. Any one ever had something like this happen? Could he be allergic to the Dubias? Maybe an injury to neck/spine but there was not very high places for him to fall. maybe 4". His tail today seems to be a smidge darker. Could tail rot be setting in? He is breaking our heart.

40 gallon Thrive tank. We swapped the top to a much more open screen

Had coil UVB lights when this happened but we have since swapped to a Reptisun bulb with a T5 setup on the way.

He is now back in the 10 gallon tank to be closer to the light.

Thanks for any help.

Ok so the coil is not good but it is odd that he has had this type of illness so quickly so where did you get him? If he was impacted it would be the back legs not the front and it started w/ the front? Tracie and AHBD will haft to take a look - Tracie is the vet tech mod on here --
Its good hes back in the 10 gallon tank -- I am going to show a pic of how it needs to be set up when you get the T 5 - when is it due in?

You will need to have a distance of 12-15 inches for the UVB directly over him -- I am not sure if that is MBD or maybe a spinal injury like you mentioned -- for now keep feeding him as many crickets as he will eat -- poor baby and I understand how you feel its heartbreaking to see them like that

Another person that got them from Petsmart. My wife and daughter came home with it one day. We have Snakes, Toads, and turtles that are native to South Carolina so this is the first nonnative Reptile/amphibian we have had. Right now this is the light setup I have and its just over 100 where he is at. Is that too cool? The 22" Reptisun T5 is not due in till Thursday.

Left light and front right light are the UVB Coil Lights. Center light is 125W Solar Glo All in One. Back right directly above him is Reptisun 10.0 UVB 13 Watt Desert Blub. I am just trying to use what I got till I can get better stuff in. Sucks living in a small town.

Oh dear you need to get rid of the coils please- the solar glo is ok what wattage is it?- -- get temp w/ the digital probe thermometer-- when the UVB comes place it the way the pic shows you-- -- at this point shut them all off when you get the new basking bulb--- just keep the basking bulb for now unless Tracie or ahbd advise otherwise- Karrie

What wattage is your solar glo? That one is needed for now-- when the UVB comes you will need to set that one up-- we need Tracie or ahbd to chime in here --

The Solar Glo is 120 Watt. He is not wanting to eat today. usually I can pull the lip back and he will eat 3 or 4 at a time. I have not gotten any in him today. Oh man this really sucks.

Poor little gut, I feel so bad for him and for you. :( You say he was moving around fine until the next day after eating dubias ? Can you post pics of the dubia size ? It's really important, also do you have a pic of the thrive set up the way you had him in it ? It could be that he became impacted , did he pooop the next day or a couple days later ? The lack of good uvb could be a factor but it doesn't usually go from them being mobile to almost paralyzed. For a temp. set up while he's sick can you get a plastic tote like Karrie posted ? It's bigger than the 10 gallon and has more chance of a heat gradient. Inn your 10 gal. there is barely room for gradient, the 120 solar glo will heat it too much. Put the Solar glo on the side away from the baby and just use the one Reptisun compact uvb for now. Drip water on his snout for a drink, he may be thirsty. TBH, he may not make it but you can try.

I understand-- hopefully ahbd will be on here soon-- I want her to advise on the solar glo and feeding - what temps are you getting in the 10 gallon tank and is he laying under the light?

Here is the avg size or Roach we were feeding him. This is on the large size of what we have fed him. He pooped the next morning and has pooped multiple times a day since. Any tips on feeding him. I was doing the gentle slide the mouth and touch him with the food and he would eat. Now he is not doing that anymore. Not sure if he is stress from moving tanks and going on a ride to the vet yesterday or if he is losing will.

The bottom was the 40 gal. Only thing missing is his water dish. Above his rock we had a coil UVB and then when things went south we added the 125w Solar Glo. On the other side we had just a heat lamp.

How many inches is your baby exactly ? Those roaches aren't TOO big but if his temps. were too low at first in the tall thrive tank and the uvb didn't reach that would affect his ability to digest food and he wouldn't absorb calcium. There are other potential problems though from a pet store dragon. Some are healthy, some not. him a

He is 8" long including tail. The Thrive 40 gal kit has a horrible top on it and I think that with the junk coil UVB may of been bad on him. I had gotten a different top with better lightning while I wait on the 22" T5. I am just wondering if the crappy lighting got him quickly and he is passed the recovery point.

Thanks for adding all the pertinent info. The dragon is barely big enough for 1/2" dubia [ only 5-6 at a time ] but the problem probably was just what you stated. The uvb was too weak, too far away and shining through the screen. Even without screen the coil or compact is too weak at that distance. The prognosis is not too good but there is currently an almost exact situation on another thread, it hasn't been updated in a few days but last time it was, the baby was not moving much but was eating.

Hello,

I agree, he may not have been at the correct temperature to digest properly & is impacted.
The roaches are possibly a bit big for him, but he could still pass them. Are you giving him
soft foods right now?
I am glad that you have a T5 tube bulb coming, that should help him quite a bit. Can you get
that mounted on the underneath side of the screen top for a stronger UVB exposure?
Keep him a little warmer overnight, to help with his digestion since he is not doing very well
right now. Let us know how he is doing.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
