Hey guys,

So I’ve had my Beardie for about 3 months now and everything is going great. Eats well, poops regularly and looks fine, give baths, seems generally happy. The only issue is one tiny spot on his tail that won’t shed. He has done a full body shed 3 times since we got him and everything always comes off just fine except this one little spot. Now it’s starting to look extra tight and uncomfortable. He doesn’t seem bothered by it at all. I’m wondering what I can do or if I should do anything. Thanks!

Oh boy,, I'm sorry to tell you but that needs amputated . The little band of shed that was left from previous sheds has constricted the blood flow and that area is dying or dead. The vet will cut slightly above the affected area to be sure to cut above any infected tissue. Beardies do very well with amputation though, most are eating the very next day. They don't feel much pain in their tail, that's why their activity level is usually not affected much so you don't know that it's a big problem. Do you have a good reptile vet ?

Oh man, that’s not good. I haven’t ever taken him to the vet since this has been the only issue. We got him in March when the pandemic kicked off. There’s no hope of it coming off on its own? I guess I should have taken him in sooner. I kept thinking it was just that one spot and that it would come off eventually since the rest of his body shed perfectly.

You want to get him in - if it's infected that infection will work its way up into the organs and kill him-- ahbd can advise more as to what to do- I don't know if it's beyond help w/ honey at this point-

Yes the shed can come off now but the damage is done. You can't feel too bad because the bottom of the tail still looks good and that would lead you to believe that it was O.K., there is still some blood flow to it so that threw you off. You can apply Neosporin, that will loosen it as well as medicate it. Raw unpasteurized honey can be used for the same reason. If you use honey though you need to be 100% sure there are no loose insects [ especially crickets ] hiding in the tank.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
