hi everyone! We started Eevees story on a previous post.. link at the bottom if you need caught up...very long painful story short.. my beardie Eevee became gravid with her first clutch of infertile eggs.. after having issues with laying, anorexia, lethargy etc.. we went to see a Dr...who wasn't the nicest person..or the best trained in reptiles judging by our visit.. she concluded Eevee was egg free. This turned out to be untrue.. Eevee was actually suffering from dystocia due to deformed eggs.. which turned into yolk peritonitis. It was another week before we saw a new Dr and got her diagnosis which is now septic arthritis.. Eevee is on baytril sub q. Injections and metronidazole. I'm trying as hard as I can to make sure she makes it through this.. and we need all the help we can get right now!

so we had a really strange poop twice in a row it was the same... dont use loose substrate so theres no way it can be that.. the entire poo is covered in a mucius shell..urates included.. and all throughout the urates there are these dark rusty colored crystals and its ONLY the urates, none in the actual poo.. at first i thought parasite eggs.. then i thought kidney stones.. she just had bloodwork done about a week ago, and dr. said kidneys looked fine..so im at a loss.cant find anything similar online.
this is how it looked when it came out

also she is on two strong antibiotics.. baytril and metronizadole.. also has to be force fed emeraid critical care. i went and got repta boost appetite stimulant thinking they were probiotics, but dont think they are.. is there anything i could give her i might have at home for probiotics? would probiotic yogurt be ok? or anything that can make things a lil easier on her during treatment?

also.. last night i checked on her while she was sleeping, and i noticed she is now twitching in her sleep.. seems like its only her front toes and her face.. eyes and mouth.. i mean could it be a normal thing..dreaming? and im just being overly worried? thanks

Don’t feed yogurt, anything with dairy in it will result in vomiting and diarrhea. Also I salute you for having the stomach to mess with her poop/urates. I can barely suppress my gag reflex from the smell.

Twitching in their sleep isn’t uncommon, but if it happens while she’s awake, I’d consider two things - if she’s getting enough calcium and if the infection spread to her nervous system.

lol totally worded that wrong.. meant to say is there anything she can eat i might have around the house with probiotics..like how there is probiotic yogurt..dont worry... no dairy for her.
after days of google searches, im almost sure the stones in her urates r some kind of kidney stone..i dont know of any other explaination.. it is strange the dr said her kidneys were good after her blood tests. not sure if septic arthritis or maybe her antibiotics can cause kidney stones? i called the vet...still waiting to hear back from the doctor. i will call again tomorrow.

Hello,

Poor girl, I hope she is feeling better.
They can pass grainy urates sometimes. Since she has had egg problems, I am not all that
surprised she had some grainy urates like that.
While on the medications, be sure to keep her well hydrated & on some type of probiotic, too
so she doesn't completely loses her appetite.

Are you keeping her a little warmer overnight right now? Let us know how she is doing.

Poor Evee, hope she gets through this. I agree with Tracie that they can have very odd poos some times. And you can get some yogurt, just the non dairy type. A wee bit of raw unpasteurized honey may be good as well.

Hang in there Eevee we are all rooting for you!

I read somewhere beardies can twitch /move if they are dreaming. It could also be pain. I second the importance of keeping her hydrated on those meds- my girl was on that same mix for a different kind of abdominal infection. The extra fluids did help flush her system a bit from the rough meds and she did show signs of improvement when i gave her the water

we will go get some non dairy probiotic yogurt and raw honey this weekend. i have been trying to give her as much fluids as possible... i was worried about pain.. cant believe shes not on pain meds..but on the other hand, idk if she needs anymore drugs in her system. no matter how much i give her baths and make her drink, she has yet to look like she isnt dehydrated anymore.. poor wrinkly girl! wish the dr woulda given me a few doses of injections just for hydration.. i would hate giving even more injections that i already have to, but im sure it would be helpful.
i really hope she pulls through this time, bc i think im about done dealing with this vet.. no matter how many times i told him she has never been kept on loose substrate..his answer for the granules in urates?? ..after waiting for a response to that and whether there was safer oral alternatives to the baytril injection for 3 days.. the only answer i got back was "its probably sand".. guess the part about me never using loose substrate went way over his head... i wont get anymore real help from him unless i give him another 500...i would love to know where she got sand in only her urate from.. its not even in the poop.. strictly urate!! yes, i did give her a lay box for laying.. but that sand was white.. and she never used it..she was too sick to do anything. im almost positive they r kidney stones.. its so hard to find answers when her problems r so specific.. all i can do is hope..and wait. so the hope is somehow these r only a minor issue from the meds/dehydration/septicimia..and she is passing all of them instead of them building up or causing gout/kidney failure.
i honestly dont see how shes pulled through all of this for this long!! the peritonitis alone coulda been too much for her!! i just hate thinking she is suffering for this long if its all gonna be for nothing in the end when i coulda stopped her pain weeks ago.

Looks like hip swelling is getting worse.. it's actually visible now.. I'm not sure if it should get worse before getting better or if it means infection is getting worse. ??

Yes she's staying warmer day and night. Keeping her low to mid 80s at night.. basking has been right at 100 during day.
Her appetite comes and goes..when it comes she only wants bugs.. and now that I'm worried bout her kidneys..idk if protein is a good idea.. wish she would eat her greens!!!
She is drinking well without me forcing it much. So that's good.
I went to PetSmart looking for probiotics..but ended up buying reptaboost.. which I'm pretty sure is just a not as good version of the critical care food I already have from the vet...doesn't even say anything on the package about probiotics.. so I'm not sure what I was thinking.. gonna try to find some of the yogurt tomorrow.

Hello!

How is Eevee doing today, were you able to get some non dairy soy yogurt?
Good luck getting extra fluids into her, that can be challenging for sure!
It could just be some excess calcium or supplementation that came through, it is really
hard to know for sure.
So sorry your vet has not been very helpful at all. Your girl has been through a lot. She
isn't exhibiting any swelling of any hands, feet, etc is she? It is possible that she could
have some gout issues simply from all of her egg issues. You are doing the best you can
& she is getting better. I just saw the picture of her hips & legs. Is her left thigh larger than
her left one? Is there any other swelling going on, her left foot?
Keep us posted on her.

yes her left is bigger..by quite alot!! and i just now noticed yesterday how much bigger her left thigh is..if u didnt know any better, it looks like her right leg is the bad one.. bc the left looks nice and meaty..but its gotta be swelling from infection.i hope it just has something to do with the antibiotics making their way in there to kick some osteomyelitis butt..and her thigh just aint big enough for the both of em.. lol. i have not noticed any other swelling..ill look her over real good today when she wakes up.
i know shes sensitive around her pelvic area big time!! and im not sure if its just from her being so boney.. or if its the kidneys swelling maybe..but in between her hips, just before the cloaca seems really hard.. ive been giving her light belly rubs everyday to try and help things along.. its already hard for her to poo with her leg being so weak, and now shes got granules mixed it her urate.. cant make it any easier!! after my days of reasearch, ive established that osteomyelitis and septicimia can cause kidneyissues..so can dehydration..even read that baytril can affect the kidneys..even if it was that.. im glad shes passing them at least.. but my main worry was gout and kidney failure..i couldnt figure out if stones always mean one of those..or if they can have stones as a symptom of a different disease and it not lead to kidney issues afterward.. also...along with the hard pelvic area.. i can still feel in just one small spot in the dead center of her belly...a marble!! doesnt seem to be making its way down either.. its gotta b the last one.. the rest of her belly is nice and soft.. its just that one little spot!! i mean i guess its the last egg.. unless its a tumor or calcified organ..its gotta be the last egg! i really wish i could give her an enema myself.. id give anything to be rich and take her to the best herp specialist money could buy.

Hello,

Did you post a copy of the blood test results? I am wondering if she could have developed
gout somewhere down the line because of the egg problems. Is she still on the antibiotics
now or is she done with the rounds?
The silk/soy yogurt is non dairy & is perfectly fine. That is a probiotic & can be given daily. I
hope she likes it!
The supplements all sound fine, no problem at all. Does it have caffeine I am assuming? LOL
I guess you could try it because it sounds healthy.
Definitely no enemas though, they really are not good for them. Instead, try giving more soft
foods & fluids to help out in case of any type of impaction problems.

Please let us know how she is doing.

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
