WHATS GROWING OFF HIS EYE HELP

Hello, I took my bearded dragon to a crappy vet today who knew nothing. $200 + down the drain so I’m resorting to this. Anyways, the last few days this has been growing off of my bearded dragons eye. It irritates him very much& is causing him to be very lethargic. Got ointment, however no knowledge of what it is unless I were to pay $500+. Anyone know? Please help thank you. Attaching photos -

Hello,

That is an interesting issue. I have not seen anything quite like that before.
How long has this been on his eye? I am sure he isn't happy about it. Did the vet attempt
to remove it, or what exactly did he do to it? What ointment did he give to you to use?
Have you gotten some sterile saline solution to use to try & flush it out daily?
Just looking at it, that looks like a growth of some type, but not sure. Does it move at all, or
is it stable? If it moves then, perhaps you can flush it enough to where it would work itself
out possibly.
Is he eating anything right now?

thanks for the response tracie! It’s been there about a week? A little less. The vet seemed to know nothing & wanted to just take my money. She attempted to look at his eye to touch it but he kept it shut & wouldn’t allow her to. So nothing was done about it. I was given trachymin ointment & I’ve been using a sterile solution on his eye daily since I noticed the bump. I’m unsure, anytime I’ve tired to touch it he doesn’t allow me to but it seems to not move. As for food, just his usual salad with carrots & greens + crickets, mealworms & occasional grasshopper. Thanks

Hello,

How is your boy today?
Well, since the area doesn't seem to move my natural assumption would be that it is going to
be a growth, hopefully just a benign growth or a cyst. Could he have injured himself somehow
that you know of?
I am doubting that the terramycin will help but maybe it will take any inflammation away. it is a
good ointment. Personally, it is probably going to have to be surgically removed most likely. My
initial thought was that if it seemed to move any, that you might be able to help manipulate it to
the point of working it loose.
You could try getting some raw, unpasteurized or manuka honey & thin it out in some warm water
to make a nice, thin eye drop. So do try the combination of things first but consider trying to find
another vet also. I would hate to see it get larger.

I’m sorry I forgot to reply! Thanks again for responding. He took a full 180 & seems to be doing a lot better with the ointment, I think it takes away any discomfort/ pain & he’s back to normal, however the eye bump is still there & very large. Unsure if I should wait some time to see if it goes away?

Hello,

Well, I am happy to hear that he is doing so much better now.
I would definitely watch the eye because you don't want the growth to completely take
over his eye. I would personally consider finding an exotic or reptile specialist to have
them take a look if it doesn't improve.
Is he eating also?

Completely eating, I’d say he’s acting almost completely normal. Just the eye issue obviously still there & prevalent, the ointment makes a world of difference. With what’s happening right now & not being able to work I’m very broke so I can’t afford to take him in for a little bit since I just spend what I could a few days ago, hopefully it resolves

Hello,

Oh my, I understand this is a huge problem for a lot of people now!
Well, maybe try some warm compresses nightly on his eye. Use some warm, moistened
chamomile tea bag over his eye when he is going to sleep. Use the ointment daily, to see
if that helps out also. It's possible it might work itself off, but, not sure.
On the compress, let it stay on his eye around 5-10 minutes but make sure it isn't too hot but
warm to help any healing. There are healing properties in chamomile. You can place a small
washcloth over it also to help hold in the heat & some moisture.

Keep trying, though.

I’ll definitely give that a try, appreciate your consistency & concern. Thanks for replying I’ll try everything tomorrow but the good news is he’s feeling a ton better

Hello,

That is good news he seems to be feeling pretty good.
Just let us know how his eye is doing. Maybe he will surprise you & the growth will eventually
fall off.
