Finley inhaled water!

Postby Finleythebeardie » Tue Feb 11, 2020 6:21 pm

Guys I just gave finely a bath and he drank from it but now he’s having trouble breathing. Water is coming out of his nose. I held him upside down for a bet so he could “drain” but he’s still having trouble. What should I do?!

How bad is it ? If the water drained from his nose as you tipped him then hopefully his breathing will calm down. Keep him at 80 degrees overnight if you can, if not then at least 75-76 to keep him a bit warmer. See how he is tomorrow.

His breathing is still a little strained but it’s better. I held him upside down again and nothing came out this time. I’ll try to keep him warmer tonight

That's good, hopefully he'll be fine and won't develop an R.I.
Don't wrap him up or anything, just use a CHE for heat [ heat but no light ] or keep a small space heater in the room and keep the tank dark as usual.

Hi there,

I agree with the advice above. It's happened to me before and it is quite scary. I actually had to resuscitate mine by tapping her chest as I held her downwards. Some dragons apparently just don't have that survival instinct, or they get too eager to drink they forget they need to breath.

Aspiration doesnt always lead to RIs but it does make it a possibility. So keeping Finley warmer over night is about the best you can do. He should be able to clear his lungs in time :)

Keep us updated.
