Accidently Fed Green Onion

Hello,

I was cooking breakfast and was using green onions in my meal. I put a couple of the left over shoots in Blake's bowl with some parsley and collard greens. He gobbled up the green onions and I was amazed at how much he liked them, but come to find out they are potentially toxic. I took his veggies, dumped them and replaced with just parsley and collard green mix. But now I am worried about the potential effect it could have on him. Anyone have positive feedback they can send my way to ease my conscious a little. I looked it up on here, but hadn't seen any horror stories and have seen others are feeding their beardies onions anyways. Any guideance appriciated. I will start looking at what is okay before I am foolish enough to just throw it in there in the future.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

If only a few small pieces were ingested it shouldn't cause much harm. They definitely can be toxic to dogs and cats but there really isnt much research on them in reptiles. At least that I could fine.

Things to watch out for would be lethargy and black bearding. If anything it might have just upset his stomach a bit. Just keep an eye on him at this point if hes acting ok right now.

Thanks for the follow up Brandon. Blake has been acting just as active and observant as always. Gave him his dinner and he pounced on it like always. I am sure he will be fine at this point, but I will continue to observe him and also do a better job at screening what I am giving him. Thank you again!

Great news,

I had a feeling he'd be fine but it is always nice to get updates :)

Let us know if anything chances.

Thanks for coming back and updating us.

Hello,

I am glad to hear he is doing fine! He would likely have to ingest a large amount of them
to make him ill, but a small amount such as what he ate shouldn't hurt him any.
The parsley is good to help with detoxing & you can add some mint, cilantro & basil too for
helping with detoxing if needed.

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
