Possible leash injury.

So yesterday I put the leash on Zeniba before we went to the park which we do daily. It was fine until we got in the car and he started thrashing. I quickly loosened the leash and slipped it off but he was doing large, deep breathes and his beard was partially black and inflating with each breath, neither of which hes ever done. Keep in mind he is shedding right now and hes almost 8 months old.
I held him to my ear and heard the click of his (cant remember the name) when he does a deep breath, which isnt consistent with him but right now its every other breath. We went to the park and he ran around, swam in the shallow creek ( he swims, warms up, jumps back in etc) and seemed normal besides the occasional big breath that would inflate his beard. I put him in my car for a bit to let him relax. Before that I was holding him and his black beard went away and his breathing slowed a lot.
Now he is moving around his basking spot to warm his back or just his head/side but he is still doing deep slow breaths and the occasional click when hes half-full of air (if that makes any sense.)
4x2x2 viv, brand new Reptisun 10.0 26watt 36" UVB tube mounted inside viv under 12" from him.Humidity is 30-40% and hits 40% when new vegetables are added.
Basking spot is 105-110, hot side is 88-90 cool side is 80.
Eats 20-30 crickets daily and has the belly to prove it (it almost touches the ground when he stands up)
Hes very active and sweet, prefers crickets over superworms.
I know this post was a mess but in freaking out. I'm going to take him to the vet today at 3.
I cant stand the thought that I hurt him, that it's my fault. He has always done well with a leash. But hes still doing the slow breathing and if he hasnt pooped or doesnt eat when I get home I dont know. Thankfully he can be seen today through the emergency care at the vets.

Hi there!

I dont think you hurt him, I think he just freaked out and then the trashing about freaked him out more. They tend to breath weird like that when they are feeling threatened, and he most likely did by being restrained by the leash during his thrashing.

How is he acting today? I'm sure hes just fine! :)

Zeniba... where did you get that name?

He is still breathing deeply and hasnt eaten, sunken eyes. He had a BM but I took him to my buddy who owns a pet shop and he said it's a URI because of the clicking when breathing. I ordered some Baytril for him to arrive in 3 days. I dont know if his tank is good enough: his thermometer says its 90 on the hot side but the tile is 95+ and its 110 in the basking spot.
Zeniba is a character from Spirited Away

It's very unlikely that the leash incident has anything to do with the ri. It's more likely that he aspirated some water swimming. And even so, that doesnt necessarily mean an ri is present. Clicking is a sign of an ri, but it doesnt mean that there is an ri, if that makes sense.

For example, my girl moro aspirated some water awhile back. She actually went limp and lifeless before I revived her. She was breathing deeply and had audible clicks on occasion, but that was just from water in the lungs and not necessarily indicative of an ri. With an ri you would see discharge, as an actual infection set in. I'd consider the 3 day wait on the baytril a good thing. No point in administering antibiotics if there is no infection.

What are you measuring your temps with?
With water in the lungs, it's best to keep the tank a bit warmer overnight to keep the body in a more active state to help the dragon clear the lungs. Use a che since they dont output light.

I knew it was from spirited away, it's just it's a girl character so I wanted to make sure! All of my dragons are named after ghibli films :D I just got 2 new girls and one of the options I was thinking of for their names was zeniba and yubaba :)

Etekcity Lasergrip 774 Non-contact Digital Laser Infrared Thermometer Temperature Gun -58℉~ 716℉ (-50℃ ~ 380℃), Yellow and Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00837ZGRY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_kYZqDbRDBKEGQ
That's my temp gun to check basking and tile temps. I have a digital gauge on the hot side to measure humidity and temp and a zoomed needle thermometer (the one that looks like a speedometer) for humidity and temp on the cool side.
He is in a Visioncages 4x2x2 which has a metal mesh to hold the basking lamp up but should I cut the mesh out of the middle so more light can get in and possibly more heat?
I'm super worried it's a URI because he isnt eating and his eyes are sunken in and half-lided. He is moving around and was climbing up/down my shoulder to see what I was doing around the kitchen. I'll keep an eye out for mucus. He has had 2 BMs today.

I love him so much i cant let anything happen to him.

I'll leave his basking light on overnight to help dry him out. I'm also considering moving the dehumidifier into his room to keep it closer to 30% because right now its hovering around 40%

I know how you feel. Like I said Moro basically died in my hands as I resuscitated her. It's definitely scary. But they are tough creatures! Is he black bearding at all? Would you be willing to post a picture of him so we can see his condition? And maybe his tank too?

No black boarding. How do I post pictures? I have pics and videos on my reddit account

You can copy the image link from reddit and post them here between the img tags. Or you can upload to this site with the user image uploader and post the ximg code it gives you.

No black bearding is a good sign. If he was in a lot of distress it would most definitely be black. :)

You can right click your images on another website to copy the image url. Then paste it inbetween the img brackets like this:
Code:

It will show up as your pictures

How is he doing today?
Still clicking? Any discharge?

Have you been keeping his night time temps up a bit higher. It will help

If you check my reddit post it's an update but in a nutshell he drank a lot, aged his face, ate 7 superworms and looks a ton better. I've been leaving his basking light on all day

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
