Flipping over on his back

Hi my beardie Finley keeps flipping over onto his back when he goes to fast off his log or sometimes if he goes to catch a cricket too fast he’ll flip over. Most of the time he gets himself back up but sometimes I have to help him. I’m positive it has something to do with his legs, his backlegs are partially paralyzed and only work a bit so he can’t really keep himself from flipping over sometimes. I’m just scared he’ll be home alone (I’m still in school and my parents work) and he’ll get stuck on him back. I’m so worried about him all day long.

Hi there, sorry that he's having this trouble. :( Does he get around well otherwise and have a good appetite ? It would be best to keep his basking areas low and not too close to the sides of the tank so if he flips off the log he doesn't get stuck between the log + glass, like wedged in .

Can you post pics of his set up , including his lighting ? Here's how :

BTW how long have you had Finley, what do you feed him and what calcium supplements do you use ? What exact type of lighting [ especially uvb ] do you have ?

Yes he is perfectly healthy in all other ways except that he broke his back when he was very little. His back legs were completely paralyzed for a while but they are healing and now he uses them some. I’ve had him about a month as of now. He has a coil uvb and I know that’s not very good but I am currently in the process of ordering a ReptiSun Tube light for his tank. I’m 14 and have a job babysitting where I get 20 dollars a week so I don’t have a very big budget for these things but I did the best I could with the money I had saved up. His new light should be here in a few days. I give him calcium with D3 on his daily veggies and I give him crickets everyday. I’m not home right now so I can’t take a photo of his set up right now but I should be home in a few hours. I have altered his set up a bit (moving him basking area farther away from the wall etc.) I do have him in 23 gallon plastic bin and not a real tank because I didn’t have enough money to invest in an actual tank. But I’m saving up and I should have enough money to get him an actual tank soon. He is in a spot in my room where he doesn’t get direct sunlight but he does get a fair amount of natural sunlight so he is getting some uvb from that.

That's good that you dust his food + have some new lights on the way for Finley, that can improve his strength + coordination . :) Be sure to dust his crickets lightly as well if he doesn't eat too many veggies. If he's eating all the veggies with calcium on then he's getting enough but if not, the crickets definitely need dusted.

A large plastic tote is fine for a while for a small to medium dragon. I used to raise beardies so this is how I set them up from hatchlings :

Be aware that glass windows block all the uvb even though the sun shines in the room. If it's above 65 + sunny outside you can actually carry the plastic bin outside . The plastic heats up with the sun shining on it. Once it's over 75 in the sun it can actually get too hot so artificial shade needs to be set up near the bin.

Hello,

Sorry your dragon had injured his back when he was younger.
That is terrific you are taking responsibility for him & helping pay for his expenses. So
currently you are using the Reptisun 10 tube bulb & it is 10 inches away? Is it mounted
on top of the screen top?

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
