Hello all, My 6 month old beardie, Blu, was diagnosed with parasites about a month ago. Although she was treated with Panacur, the diarrhea returned after 3 weeks. I had also been noticing some strange gulping/ popping sounds. Upon returning to the vet, she was diagnosed with a URI as well as possible parasites. I was given Baytril for the URI and Panacur for the parasites. Recently, Blu has been extremely lethargic and only remains in her basking spot. I have a 24 hour surveillance camera on her and check on her regularly. Her beard appears black and she does not eat. I DO NOT WANT HER TO SUFFER :( does anyone have any suggestions to help ease her discomfort? The vet recommended I steam her daily to help her sneeze, but when I do, she gets frantic and her beard puffs up, so I stop. When can I expect her to improve? What food should I be giving her? She is not interested in drinking water, or eating. Should I bathe her? What should her tank conditions be? Please inform me of any thing I can do to help my baby. Please help

Currently her medicine prescription is as follows:
Baytril every day, .05, for 7 days, then once every other day for three doses
Panacur one dose this week (administered on Monday), second and final dose will be administered next week.

Hello,

So sorry to hear that your girl isn't doing very well.
It definitely sounds like she doesn't feel good, with the black bearding. I think you
should ask the vet about nebulization, or, is that what you are referring to per the
steaming? Are you using any medication when you steam her or placing her in an
incubator, etc?
I recommend keeping her at around 80 in her tank overnight to help boost her immune
system. What foods do you feed her?
We would be happy to review your tank setup also, to be sure everything was all correct.
Let us know how she is doing.

Hi Tracie!
So the beard is only present when I am not holding her I’m not sure why. Her tank conditions are:
40 gallon tank
100 watt heat bulb
60 watt CHE for night time
10.0 reptisun uvb
Digital thermometer with probe
Screen lid
Repticarpet
Basking branch
Hammock

I am not familiar with nebulization ...the vet said to vaporize by purchasing a steam vaporizer or taking her in with me during a hot shower but did not instruct me to medicate her during vaporization. I tried the hot shower,, but she looked very uncomfortable. I then came on here and saw it is recommended to keep humidity very low so I’m confused. She has never gotten to the point of coughing or wheezing, just popping sounds which have started to become less frequent. Should I continue with the showers? I am scared she will get cold and get worse. Right now I am not feeding her any insects as she is fighting off parasites...her appetite is decreased so I give her emeraid ic it’s all she wants to eat but she hasn’t pooped in a couple days . What should I feed her?? Also I keep her day temps at 75 cool side and 100-105 basking spot. At night temps are around 80-83

Hello,

Nebulization would be a better route to go than putting her in a hot shower, etc. You
can use baytril or a couple of others for nebulization.
She may not have a true respiratory infection but if she is having some symptoms, it may
be a good idea to treat for a short period of time. He should be able to help with getting
a nebulizer or maybe check at a local drug store. You can make the container out of a
medium plastic bin sealed up so that the mist stays inside.
Is the Reptisun 10 tube bulb mounted on top of or underneath of the screen top?
The Emeraid should be fine. You can get some chicken or turkey baby food, mixed with
squash or sweet potato baby food, & mix it up. She should like the flavor of it also. You
could also try getting some bee pollen to put in with the food daily for help with her appetite
& for boosting the immune system.
Those temperatures should be just fine for her.
Let us know how she is doing.

Hi, so I have been giving her the assigned doses as they should be given, but she continues to show the symptoms of gulping. They are becoming more pronounced and I’m worried I’m doing something wrong. She has been eating baby food but doesn’t poop as often as she used to...the last time she pooped was on Monday and it was diarrhea. This was before her final dose of panacur. Is there anything else I can do? Also her uvb reptisun is on top of the screen lid.
