I have a 5 year old male beardie that I have had since he was a couple months old. He’s in a 4x2x2 viv on tile with a recently replaced Arcadia 12% UV tube, stable temps of 39c-27c. He eats gutloaded crickets, locusts and calci worms and a wide variety of veg, dusted with calcium 3x week and multi vit once a week.

A couple of months ago I noticed a light grey patch on my beardie and assumed he was just due a shed. About a month ago it began to turn yellow, thick and spread so I took him to the local vet (not a reptile specialist) and she told me to keep an eye on him and regularly bathe him as it’s just stuck shed, but I’m concerned that it’s something more as it doesn’t look like any stuck shed I’ve ever seen, and a couple of the scales have started bleeding. It is incredibly itchy to him if it is touched and he will continuously scratch at it if it is touched by anything, including by any water in the bath. I brought him back to the same vet on Friday and she isn’t concerned at all and told me it’s just stuck shed, but I’m not convinced.

The nearest specialist reptile vet is about 60 minutes away and I don’t drive, so I wanted to get some opinions on here as to whether I’m being a hyperchondriac before I make the trek.

Hi. Poor guy. It could be yellow fungus. You need a reptile specialist who can text for it. In the mean time no more baths. It makes it worse. You can put some lamisil antifungal cream on it see if it helps. Sometimes you need to get medication to fight it internally.

Hi there, that also might be a burn. Can you post pics of his set up showing exactly how far he is from the heat bulb ? And what exact type of bulb is it , maybe the intense basking spot bulb ?

Thank you both for your replies, I was worried it could be yellow fungus but it didn’t look like any of the photos I had seen online, and the vet didn’t mention it at all.

The bulb is about 8-10” away from the basking spot and has a ceramic bulb guard over it. It’s just a standard 60w ProRep bulb, I’ve been using the same brand and in the same location for the past 5 years. I’m not at home at the moment but can take a photo when I get back.

Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
