Bearded dragon cant poop, very lethargic and dark.

Hi! Not-so-recently my boy Levi has been having numerous problems. I need to take him to the vet nearly every month to get an enema since he cant seem to poop on his own despite having daily baths and some baby food to try to help him pass stools (of course its no added sugar baby food), hes been having to go once a month to the vet for 8 months now? maybe 6?

This isnt a reptile specialist vet since the nearest one is 2+ hours away and since its been cold out i didnt want to make that drive with Levi. My vets in contact with the reptile expert and they still cant seem to find out the problem.. Hes had xrays done which havent showed any problems and all around got a clean bill of health. He seems better after an enema which is why i havent been *too* concerned but this last month he didnt seem to perk up at all after his visit. After his enema his poop seems normal except the white part is completely hardened. I thought it was dehydration but hes had so many baths i dont know anymore? Ive been trying to give him water through a syringe/dropper but he gets angry when i do and spits it out.

Recently hes been acting very lethargic and lazy in his cage with dark coloring and avoids basking. He does seem to brighten up and run around when i take him out but im extremely worried about him since this isnt his normal personality. Iv'e also noticed he isnt wanting to eat. Any ideas on why his health is like this or how i can help him feel better? :(

He gets fed crickets 2 times a week and salad the rest of the time. Salads consist of various veggies like Occasional kale, yellow squash, collard greens, mangos, strawberries, Greenbeans, and sometimes blueberries and grapes as a treat. The salad is either dusted in calcium powder or a bearded dragon salad dressing that has vitamins and abit calcium.
His cage is a 40 gallon breeder tank, his basking varies from 98-100 degrees his cool side is usually around 80, he has a reptisun 10.0 UVB (compact bulb), and his substrate is tile.

Hes about two years old ive and owned him since a baby. I do have a second male dragon who doesnt seem to be having any of these problems?

I would be very wary about having those enimas done. They can be quite dangerous and deadly in a lot of cases. His diet sounds pretty good and there is a nice variety of veges. Is he eating his veges? You don't need to supplement them with powder or salad dressing as they are quite nutritious on their own. It's only the bugs that needs supplementation. I would keep trying to offer extra hydration by dripping water on his nose. If he isn't liking it, try dripping just a little at a time using your finger and see if he likes that better. Try including more squash in the diet and see if you can get him eating that. It is nutritious and quite hydrating which may help.

Your temperature gradient sounds about right. Are those surface temperatures or ambient temperatures? You want the lighting to be adjusted based on surface temperature. I would upgrade the UVB light to a more powerful option. The compact bulbs don't provide a wide spread of UVB and aren't as beneficial as a T5 UVB setup like this one would be http://www.lightyourreptiles.com/22-t-5-ho-fixture-high-output-with-arcadia-d3-12-ho-bulb/

I can't seem to find another way to get him to poop without enemas. I tried to go without them for awhile but after a month and a half (Or more? it couldve been two months) without him pooping went by i had to go in and get one done again in fear that the impaction would destroy his intestines if i let it go on for too long. I had no idea they could be deadly but he just wont go without them

He doesnt always eat his veggies but i do catch him having a bite here and there.
The temps were ambient temperatures taken with a digital thermometer and thanks for the suggestion for the UBV i'll definitely get one !
Would too much calcium/vitamins be causing him to not beable to poop?

Hello,

Sorry your dragon is having some trouble!
I agree with Cooper, I would try a stronger UVB bulb. The compact/coil lights are just not
really ideal UVB light. Their spectrums are poor & they don't distribute the UVB very well.
The T5 high output tube bulbs are absolutely terrific!
As far as too much calcium & or vitamins, it is possible that can cause impaction or for them
to get backed up, but, not very likely. I think the most plausible scenario here is that even
though he is getting calcium, without proper UVB his body isn't able to absorb it fully which
is contributing to a calcium deficiency. When this happens, the GI tract muscles weaken &
are unable to operate the smooth muscles that it takes for the tract to push anything through.
This leads to impactions, prolapses & a decline in health.
You can add some unsweetened applesauce along with canned pumpkin & a few drops of either
olive or coconut oil a few times a week. That may help out, but I would consider upgrading
your UVB lighting & getting him on liquid calcium for a higher & faster absorption rate.

Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
