my beardie, Ozzie, is 4 years old and she developed a small lump about 3 months ago, i hoped it would go down by itself as vet bills are expensive, the lump was on top of her skin not undertneath, and i gave her calcuim water to see if that would reduce it but nothing has work, i cant get to the vets for another 2 weeks as they are booked up until then and recently she has stopped eating and has reduced mobility in her left leg where the lump is! the lump has drastically grown in size over time and im not sure if its a tumour or growth? im so worried please can someone help me!!! the lump oozes with puss however its hardened over recently, however i also think its bleeding, she seems bright in her eyes and other than that is healthy! please can someone give me advice on what to do and does anyone know what the lump is??

OMG !!! .... that's very nasty and it's terribly infected.

You say this lump has been like on him for 3 months. I think you are "mistaken" , it will have taken many months to get so bad.
I'm very disturbed that you have allowed your dragon to become so sick and emaciated (fat pads gone , very skinny legs, ribs clearly visible). :(

This will not go away by itself.
There are NO HOME REMEDIES to fix this.

I'm sorry you have such sick dragon, but I am much more worried about your pet than your feelings. He is in agony and very sick and needs urgent medical treatment .

You dragon is in agony and MUST SEE A REPTILE VET IMMEDIATELY. Here is a list of reptile vets
viewtopic.php?f=45&t=234369&p=1803862&hilit=melissa#p1803862
if you love your pet you need to get him to a good vet right away and have this huge ulcerated abscess or whatever it is removed and him started on treatment to fight off the obvious systemic infection he is full off and which will kill him if not properly treated for him to have any chance of surviving this. He can not wait two more weeks.

PLEASE don't hold off taking him to a reptile vet , this is urgent , I'd call the vet and tell them you are on your way RIGHT NOW. Don't take no for an answer.

Vets no matter how over booked they are have to see emergency cases and this is clearly an emergency.

Please do this for Ozzie , and keep us in the picture. I hope Ozzie comes through this .

Hi there, I'm so sorry that it's such a large + horrible wound and I agree that this is a very urgent situation requiring experienced vet attention. Try to get her in ASAP. Very urgent ! Until then you can put some raw, unpasteurized honey on it right away. [ Like from a health store or beekeeper ] It works as a powerful antimicrobial [ not a myth] and can keep bacteria from growing and reduce inflammatio + infection. See this link:
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=7&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjRp5rO5qnWAhVKPCYKHdZkDVoQFghXMAY&url=http%3A%2F%2Fapitherapy.blogspot.com%2F2007%2F06%2Fhoney-used-to-treat-wound-infections-in.html&usg=AFQjCNHSSqyA2iKNq3GIyNL7MN7CfSxWvA

But you still need a good vet to help her out. Allso, be SURE to check her tank so there are no loose crickets in there, they would be eating on that wound at night but hiding during the day. Best wishes !

Oh my god, that's hard to look at, it's now abscessed, regardless of how it started, which means it's horribly infected and he's going to die without immediate treatment he may already be septic at this point. He's horribly skinny and that mass is certainly "under the skin", in fact it's down to the bone... We're way past raw honey here, he needs to be admitted to an animal hospital and will no doubt need surgery and a drain put in it, IV antibiotics, blood work, etc. He's had this for a long, long time and has also not been eating in quite a while, he's not "otherwise healthy". Im sorry but I hope you're not seriously thinking of waiting 2 more weeks to take him to a vet, he will not live that long!!!

It looks just like a warble to me, which I've never heard of in a reptile before, but the large, plugged hole in the middle of the abscess looks exactly like a warble hole, which is a maggot that has burrowed under his skin and has literally been eating him from the inside out, and causing a severe infection along the way. It may not be a warble, but it's a life-threatening source of infection either way and you need to put him in the car and drive him how ever many hours to the closest 24 hour animal hospital that is open on Saturdays right now. No excuses, he's no doubt in such agony that he wants to die...

Please let us know how he is doing! Ozzie you are in my prayers, I hope you get some relief soon!

I use this forum for my baby since I am new and inexperienced. I have had some hard times with my baby the past couple weeks and everyone on the formum has been very helpful which has allowed me to not be as stressed when caring for my Dragon, in turn this helps alleviate some stress for my Dragon. Please trust what is being said here, I have no expertise with reptiles, but I do work in healthcare and no matter what the creature that abscess (not diagnosing, it just looks like an abscess) needs medical attention STAT! We love what we give our time to, so please give your time to your Dragon, there is no reason not to at this point. I have no room to judge your decisions and I too do not always know what to do, please, please take your baby to a vet today right now!

I don't think raw honey will be much help in this case.

Need the heavy antimicrobial artillery here see http://www.chemicalessentials.com.au/f10-skin-treatment.html

You'll need similar to this would care kit : http://store.independenceaustralia.com/wound-care/wound-dressings/kits-packs/dressing-pack-standard.html
-- at least one kit per day .
Terumo Needle Range - Blunt Drawing Up Needle 18G , to draw water from the bottle and betadiene from the bottle into the syringe.
Terumo Luer Lock Syringes Range - 5ml

I had ulcers that were treated by a visiting wound care specialist nurse as follows :
>>>> visit the drug store and buy some sterile wound care kits.
>>>> the open wound needs to be washed GENTLY with sterile saline.
>>>> prepare a 5ml syringe as follows : Betadiene 1ml + saline or freshly boiled water 4mls
>>>> in the wound care kit's plastic prep tray place a sterile woven surgical swab and use the syringe to soak the swab with the diluted betadiene , place on the wound and leave it there for at least 10 minutes.
>>>> rinse the betadiene solution off
>>>> at this point my nurse applied Inodine http://store.independenceaustralia.com/wound-care/wound-dressings/antimicrobial/inadine-iodine-dressing-non-adhesive-1.html
with Mepore Pro inland barrier dressings http://store.independenceaustralia.com/mepore-pro-showerproof-dressing-6cmx7cm.html.... probably not practical for a lizard
>>> I suggest apply F10 Germicidal Barrier Ointment gently to the wound as per instruction , this is not by any measure an alternative to urgent vet treatment and wont help with a systemic infection, for that he needs intravenous antibiotics over a period of time.

You need to get this gear on hand - get your partner or a friend to get this stuff while you take Ozzie to the vet , so you will have it on hand when / if he survives surgery and comes home as it's going to take at least as long for him to recover as it took for this get as bad as it is now and you will need to dress the wound every day until the skin heals and seals .

I didn't say " just use honey " and not take him to a vet, please read what I said. And yes, honey can help, that's why it's being used in situations where all the " heavy antimicrobial artillery " are failing.

So honey is VERY useful as a product that may be on hand until he can get to a vet. Your leg ulcers also may have healed far more quickly using honey BTW. Not saying that as a FACT, but as a real possibility.

Awe poor beardie. I couldn't really stand to keep looking at the photos but beardie needs to see a vet, needs medical treatment ASAP. If you can, try to get an appointment today. I hope your beardie feels better.

Yeah, this isn't about "raw honey" or anything other than that poor little guy is very, very sick, in horrible pain, has been suffering for quite a long time, is emaciated, dehydrated, and may already be septic, and the bottom line is that he needs to either be taken to a 24 hour animal hospital today, immediately, or needs to be taken to the nearest Reptile Rescue or Animal Rescue that accepts reptiles and surrendered so that they can take him to an animal hospital today. You may need to drive a few hours one way to get to a hospital that is open on the weekends, but if you let us know where you live we can help you find the closest one. Any veterinarian who sees that isn't going to turn you away or tell you to make an appointment, they're going to take him right in and start working on him, it's that dire. There is nothing to do at home in the meantime, not really, whether it be antibiotic ointment, raw honey, Hibiclens or Betadine soaks, etc. it's not going to help, as that has long been a mass that needs surgically drained and cleaned out, and obviously he needs IV medication, both antimicrobials and pain meds. Waiting as long as you did, for whatever reason, it doesn't matter why now, but it has resulted in this becoming far worse and much more difficult to treat. That's why I'm throwing the reptile rescue out there as an option. I'm sure you don't want to give him up, but if there is a financial issue that's preventing you from getting him help, then I want to make sure that you know you can still get him immediate help. Yes, you'd have to give him up to a rescue, but he's not going to live much longer without medical intervention anyway, so better you give him up and get him help than just keeping him like this until he finally dies, because he's suffering so much, his leg isn't working now because either the growth/abscess has invaded the nerves/muscles etc. to the leg and he can't move it, or because it's causing him too much pain to move it, or both. So please, let us know if we can help you find the closest 24 hour animal hospital or reptile rescue to your town or city. Even calling the closest reptile rescue should get you the best place to take him on a weekend.

I completely agree .... time is critical here and it not fair to him to procrastinate any longer , if you have to take out a loan or use a credit card, so be it.'

If he were mine I'd rob Peter to pay Paul , he'd get my highest priority, everything else can wait, he can't. If he were a human , he'd be in ambulance now on the way to the ER and prompty sent off to have immediate surgery.

Ozzie really needs someone that can take care of her properly. Could you post some pictures of her tank & what she eats. It might be a good idea to put her up for adoption or offer her to someone that would give her the attention & love she needs. Looks like she has been seriously neglected, by you & your parents. I hope she survives until her appointment. You could try some baby food to feed her.

Poor Ozzie, won't have much of an appetite now,. Thankfully she's not really terribly thin although there is some weight loss she's definitely not skin + bone but will go downhill quickly now with this problem + not eating. Try some baby food as mentioned, like squash, green bean, chicken [ with no salt, gravy or other additives ] If you could get hornworms or silkworms, even a few superworms if she likes worms better than other insects.

And do try the raw honey on it, that's what I mentioned from the start.
she needs vet intervention but this is something you can do right away. It must be raw + unpasteurized . You can't leave insects loose in the tank for sure though with that wound. Check this short video from BBC, incredible wound healing [ huge leg + arm ulcers, with pics ] If you want to get right to the actual pics start around 1:20 in the video.

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
