Baby Beardie closing one eye

My baby beardie often closes one eye and leaves the other open (normally while he's basking). I've read that this is normal but he's been doing it frequently. I was using a 10.0 Exo terra coil UVB but I've since turned it off after I heard they can be harmful but he still does it. Other than that he seems healthy, he eats, drinks, poops, and is active.

Hello,

Which UVB light are you using now?
I am glad you went ahead & turned it off for now, the coil lights can be very hard on the eyes. Which type of basking light are you using, a bright white light or a colored light?
You can change to the Reptisun 10 tube or the Arcadia D3 12% tube, either one is a great bulb.
His eye may still be a little irritated. You can get some sterile saline solution to drop into his eyes to help out with any irritation or inflammation right now.
Is he eating very well?

I haven't gotten the chance to go out and get a new one, I plan on going this weekend to get one, and the basking light is a "75w Zoo Med Repti Basking Spot Lamp" over a 20gal tank. He's definitely eating enough and his belly looks well fed and he is still active. Also his colors (especially on his belly) are darker most of the time while he's in his cage and lighten up when I handle him and let him run around outside his tank. I really want this lizard to survive and be as healthy as possible, I appreciate the help

Hi, same thing happened with my baby Kozmo when I brought her home. I also thought it was the coil uv light that came with my viv kit. We changed to a Reptisun 10.0 tube after reading the benefits of it. I also used refresh eye drops to flush the eye and keep it moist. She would puff them up and that really freaked me out. Turns out that she was about to shed and once she had there was not a problem. It happened again on her second shed, but not her third. She's about to shed again and seems fine. I bath her every day during a shed to help her out.

Now she's a big girl @ 6 mos.

Sorry about the sideways pictures...

His head has been in shed for the past day or two and I have seen him puffing his eyes out a bit lately. Seems like it's a similar situation you had, hopefully it is. I have been bathing him everyday and misting him once or twice a day and I gave him eye drops earlier today. Thanks for the help!

Hello,

How is your little one doing today? Is he still closing his eye?
If he has been getting ready to shed his head, that is a big possibility for him closing his eye, especially if he's eye bulging.
Though, I do recommend changing out the UVB light for a much better UVB source for him.

Keep us posted on him.

I purchased and put into use a fluorescent 10.0 repti sun UVB earlier this morning and he seems to be closing one eye much less frequently since I took out the last one, and his colors seem brighter now, but ever since I turned off his old UVB his appetite dropped. He still drinks just as much, but for the past two days he only ate around four crickets each day. He's noticeably thinner but he's still energetic and acting completely fine other than his appetite, and has no problem going to the bathroom which is the first thing I suspected. Any idea on what could be the cause?

Hello,

I'm glad to hear you got the light changed. That is odd about his behavior though. How close did you place the tube bulb to him & is it directly beside the basking light?
Is the rest of him getting ready to shed or not?
Many times they lose their appetite right before a shed.
How much weight has he lost?
Let us know how he is doing.

Yeah I have it directly beside the basking light, and it doesn't seem like he is about to go into shed. He appears very thin, and is refusing to eat all together now, but still drinks. His behavior seems completely fine, he is responsive and active, he just won't eat. I fear for the worst if he doesn't get some food in his belly, he's losing weight fast :(

What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
