Hello experienced beardie owners.

Leif has been with us 2 weeks and we've noticed these little red marks on him. Mainly near the base of his tail. We thought mites but these marks are tiny because he is only a tiny baby around 13g at the moment.

We couldn't see any crickets...even when we moved stuff until I took some driftwood out and 6 crickets crawled out from a tiny gap.

Do these look like bites and do we think he'll be ok or will he need to see the vet at all.

Hi there, Leif sure is a pretty little leatherback. :) Where did you get him and when did you notice the markings ? It looks like the mark that some breeders put on their babies to tell them apart by sex or clutch. Is that possible, that the breeder had him marked ?

Hi there AHBD

Thanks so much for replying.

We got him on New Years Eve from a specialist shop. We've looked through earlier pics from yesterday and earlier and we can't see any spots on him earlier than today.
The only different thing we've fed him today is salad cress.
We've not cleaned the tank or anything so it's not an allergen from a cleaning product.
So we thought perhaps evil cricket bites. We are 100% clear of evil crickets now and he's currently sleeping.

Mores stressful than a human baby.

Hope he's going to be ok he's such a stunner

That's a mystery then. Hmmmm. Did anyone give him any type of red food ? I know that's almost too obvious for you to not have considered, but I just thought I'd throw that out there. And can you post pics of his set up ?

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
