Bearded dragon is cut.

[TOPIC AUTO-LOCKED DUE TO INACTIVITY]

not to long ago a heat lamp of mine hit the back right foot of my beardie.
it made a little cut, it swelled up bit. so i put some hydrogen peroxide on it so it wouldnt get infected.
today i noticed that the damaged scales on his toe are coming off.
a few were black, but no discharge drained, it seems dry.
i freaked out and washed it with warm water.
hydrogen peroxide.
alcohol.
and used some antibacterial on it.
im super worried.
and i dont want anything bad to happen to him.
hes kept at the right temperatures.
eats fine.
poos fine.
has alot of spunk, but it still worries me.
hes housed on paper towel.
and i plan on keeping it that way.
ive been disenfecting the tank everyday.
but i cant afford a vet.
there are no exotic and reptile vets any where near where i live.
so either way id be outta luck.

any suggestions on how to keep it clean so it heals?
it doesnt seem to bad, its just a little swollen.
but the scales coming off around the area is what freaked me.
do you think it will heal soon?
or will it take awhile?
im in no rush, but i hate to see my little guy hurt.
i dont have a camera at the moment.
but ill be getting pics of it soon.

thank you so much in advance.

I believe that hydrogen peroxide is not a good thing to use....let me see if I can find the thread I am thinking of...

ok I found one of them:

viewtopic.php?f=61&t=94230&start=0

Read what Drache said, she is very very knowledgable

I am not a vet or anything, but I do know that hydrogen peroxide is not good, and I wanted to post something till hopefully one of the mods or someone else with more experience will see this.

Honestly I would take him to a vet. In the mean time, soak his foot in betadine diluted in warm water to the color of a weak tea for a couple minutes a couple times a day and put neosporin on it (the regular kind not the pain relief one). I would take him/her into the vet as soon as you can just to make sure he's going to be okay.
I recently had a similar issue except with his tail and he did lose the tip of his tail but the vet gave me some liquid antibiotics to help prevent/kill infection...Good luck.

lol not tea. Put the betadine in warm water just a couple of squeezes will produce a diluted mixture the color of a weak tea. It took about a month before the tip fell off, but it lost it's scales and turned black and shriveled up. Watch your beardies foot to make sure it doesn't get infected or the dead tissue doesn't spread further up. Can you post a picture of the foot?

I bought my betadine in Walgreens. It's back by the peroxide. Be careful with pulling dead skin off, you can damage more than you would think. I would call local vet clinics in the morning, sometimes they are open on Saturdays. I soak my little guy in warm water several times a week and I still soak his tail everyday in the diluted betadine and apply neosporin and it's been about a month.

Ok.
so i bought the betadine.
i added drops into the tub.
i let him soak in it for a good 20 min.
i dried him off and applied antibacterial cream to it.
i found it the betadine at my walmart for 6.22. alot cheaper than 18.00
any advice so far?

how many times a day should i be doing this?
and do i apply the cream every time im done giving him a medicated bath?

thanks again

lol waaay cheaper than Walgreens :) I'll have to remember that. I would soak him a 2-3 times a day and yes neosporin after every bath. I always soak mine and then put them back under their heat lamp just in case they get chilly. I'm a little over the top about them : )

In a pinch, 3X daily soaking in Epsom salts also help to speed healing and prevent infection. Diluted hibitane is also good for washing wounds.
