First time owner

Hi guys! I’ve spent the past month or so getting a tank all ready for a Beardie, and finally brought a baby home yesterday! I haven’t come up with a name yet, I feel as though I have to feel that out as I get to know my Beardie’s personality. When I put him/her in its new home he/she explored and spent some time basking. He/she ate a little bit of fruit right off of my finger which surprised me! I also saw a wave before I turned off lights and went to bed!! Does this mean he/she is getting settled in ok / not scared?? He/she also slept standing up pressed against the glass on the suction of its hammock which worried me.. I woke up this morning and sure enough, still there and sleeping soundly. I got the side eye as I turned on the lights this morning😂 I was nervous about leaving for work this morning, but by the time I was ready to leave he/she was in their basking spot watching me as I checked in. I left some collard greens, yellow squash, and carrots in its little dish and I’m going to try some crickets when I get home. I was wondering when I should start interacting and handling it, also when I should start giving it baths?

Welcome to the forum--- your baby is going to go thru relocation stress so his eating will be slow- next he needs to be fed salads and insects first thing in the morning-- he may not eat the salads w/ out enticement to the bowl-- you can use small super worms 1-3-- butter worms and bsfl - they need to be added to his salad in front of him-- let him see you do this- his insects need to be dusted 5 x per week and vitamins 2 x per week- he should be fed as many insects as he can eat in 10 minute time frame- you can add those to his food dish after he eats from his bowl for like an HR or so you can take a little of the vegies out but leave some in so he eats them as well as the insects- the bsfl are a great staple feeder so you can feed as many as you want and they do not need to be dusted as they are calcium enriched-here are some websites to get stuff from
http://www.symptonbsf.com- order large as they are small
http://www.reptilesplus.com -- small super worms and dubias they are the best to use for staple besides the bsfl-- dubia roaches is good for butter worms but they are out now
Please post pics of your tank and lighting
As far as handling I would give him a week to settle in but you can start getting him used to your hands in the tank feeding cleaning tank--- as far as bathing I would see if you can get him to eat his vegies wash them before serving and his insects gutloaded w/ carrots vegies squash will keep him hydrated-- watch his poops for being moist formed and dark urate- formed moist and white- extra water is good

This is my setup, my substrate is the exo terra sand mat (no loose pebbles) and I think I am going to switch to tile soon I’m just not sure when because I don’t want to stress my beardie out even more than it already is right now.. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated on how to improve my little ones home!

I see two fixtures inside the tank -- what is the short one?

I think that’s just a glare from the light in the room, I have the T5 HO 10.0 UVB under the screen top

Great bulb just make sure its no closer that 12-15 inches from his basking spot --- they are a strong bulb -- and the two domes what is in them?

Should I put it on top of the screen? And the one on the left is 150 watt the smaller one is 75 watt, I believe they’re both zilla white light incandescent bulbs but I’ll double check their boxes when I get home. I have an intensity dial for the 150 watt bulb, so it’s not as bright/hot as it can be

If you can't get it up to 12 inches inside move it to top but remind you the screen will filter 30% of those rays-- so your gonna need to have the decor piece 6-8 inches under that bulb--- if your screen is fine mesh - if the screen is wide holed 8-10 inches--- what are your basking temps? Are you taking them w/ a digital probe therm or infrared heat gun

Thank you for your help! Basking temp is 107f. I’m using the temp gun and hold it about 2 inches from where I’m measuring the temps!

Yep, I was so happy when he ate the first time I gave food! Worms should be here today so I’ll give him them with his salad tomorrow morning. Yesterday after work I would say he ate about 15 crickets before he had enough and went to his basking spot and he ate a decent amount of his salad in the morning, yellow squash was a hit. This morning I gave him crickets again because I didn’t have the worms yet, and he ate about 8. He pooped twice as of this morning since I brought him home Sunday, and they both looked normal!

Yep those are good --- you can also use the super worms 1-3 and butter worms as well - you can get small supers from here if you cant find them where you are - last I looked they were out of butter worms --
www.https://reptilesupply.com/ - they carry dubias as well ---
