Ozzy (short for Lizard of Oz) is our first bearded dragon, my first reptile. My partner has had iguanas but they're very different. Ozzy is about six months old and he is all personality. We love him already!

First time I held him at the pet store:

Welcome --- you mentioned pet store ---- not a good sign -- please post pics of setup --- from what I see he is on sand? Not a good thing-- sand causes a lot of problems--- you can post pics of tank etc by going to user image uploader at the top of this page - down load - click reply and at the top of message box click on XIMG and go from there --
thanks Karrie

Welcome! They are pretty awesome pets and it's funny how each one has its own personality. I recently rescued a dragon and he's definitely different from my other guy. If this is your 1st beardie, be sure to check out the care sheet section. Lighting, substrate, temps, and diet are all important to keeping these little fellas healthy, but it's pretty rewarding once you get over the initial hump.

Hi Karrie,

We are using a sand substrate for the time being, it was the one that came with the tank. I'm thinking to switch to slate or tile after the next time I clean his tank. We haven't had any problems with it so far but I have read that it's easy for him to get impacted with sand in the tank. Not sure what you mean by a pet store not being a good thing. The one we got him from is reputable in the area and the employee I spoke with prior to buying him had a beardie of his own. We are still learning and Ozzy has been very good for us adjusting to being new owners. We really like having him around and observing his behaviors. Thanks for the advice!

Oh good its best to get one from some one who has experience w/ beardies -- box store I am talking about would be Petsmart Petco etc................ first time beardie owners we get on here usually are getting or have gotten all kinds of bad advice and they end up w/ a sick beardie or one that has died-- the kits they sell at the box stores has all kinds of wrong equipment to keep the beardie healthy etc.... they are telling them to feed only meal worms (bad for a baby) etc.. if you have any questions pleas feel free to ask --- I have slated tile in my tank cut to the tanks size -- you can also use non adhesive shelf liner as well

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
