What are you using to measure the temperatures? 50w is pretty low but may work in an enclosure that is well insulated. You'll have to go by your measurements and adjust accordingly. It's important to have accurate surface temperature readings using an IR temp gun or digital thermometer with probes (one for the basking surface and one for the cool side surface).
