You want to create a nice gradient. Look for 100-110 in the basking area with some areas around that in the 90s and a gradient down to about 75-80 or so on the cool side of the tank. This will provide plenty of options for him to move around throughout the day. Your UVB light should sit over the basking spot so the highest UVB concentrations are mixed with the warm temperatures and bright light.
If the basking spot is running at 100oF , it's fine .
Also need to make sure the cool zone is in the range 24 - 28oC.
Don't forget to give the beardie some o/night tank heating if it's frosty / snowly / freezing cold weather and chilly (cooler than 22oC inside the house).
