The weather thread .

Postby kingofnobbys » Wed Sep 02, 2020 8:45 pm

3rd September Lake Macquarie NSW , 30 degC , dry NNW winds ( gusting to 30 km per hour ) and hazy.

Spring has arrived .

We're still on Lev 2 water restrictions here in the Hunter Valley , no fixed sprinkler systems or garden irrigation systems allowed …. must water plants only with a hose.

Trevally will be spawning in river mouths and close to rocky headlands .
Snapper will be moving from offshore reefs to shallower inshore reef as the ocean temperature increases from 20 degC to 21 - 23 degC.

I'm surprised about the water restrictions after the parade of storms you've been seeing. Not enough to bring the water tables back up where they should be yet?

The dams were pretty low , they aren't as low now , thing is most the rain fell in places other the water storage catchments , and ended up either soaked on the very dry ground or creating floods in the lower reaches of the coastal rivers.

Currently on Lev 1 water restrictions here https://www.hunterwater.com.au/our-wate ... strictions

Dams supplying Greater Sydney are in a better state https://www.waternsw.com.au/supply/Grea ... dam-levels

The forecast is for a wet spring and a wetter summer .

Aircon turned off today , first time since April . very nice temperature ,but hazy (smoky) due to a lot bushfire hazard reduction burning going on in national parks, crown land ( forests ) all round Sydney , Illawarra , Central Coast and hunter and Myall regionals.
Only just turned back on about 11pm as the storm and rain cooled the place down this evenng.

Getting very pretty sun rises this week , lot of ash and dust in atmosphere scattering reds and oange hues , I was up at dawn .
No hope of viewing comet 2020 F3 despite it setting 21:45 according to my calculations ( too much smoke haze , and getting too close to a full moon ) , despite it being about 43 deg ALT at end of dusk.
