Dubia roaches I feed more than any other feeder. I do feed some superworms to those who will eat them during the week...and randomly some BSFL as a treat. Rarely a hornworm...I would say its about 60% roaches, 30% superworms, and 10% other.

I don't really like the term "staple" as it implies that a staple is all that needs to be fed, but that's just semantics :)

My dragons all get a mix of at least 3 or 4 bugs through out the week, usually at least 2 different bugs per feeding/day.

The main group for me is dubias, mealworms, supers, and BSFL. Occasionally I have butters, silks and hornworms on hand that I give. But I always have at least the top 3 of my list, and usually the top 4.

My dragon eats mostly veges but my main bug feeder is dubias since I have a colony going. When the weather cooperates I will order batches of BSFL, hornworms, and silk worms for him as well. The more variety the better, but it also comes down to what you can reasonably offer and keep in stock as needed.

I'm about 60/40 crickets and dubias, with some superworms tossed in when I can get the right size, and BSFL when I have to go away for the weekend on occasion (they stay in the bowl and are good feeders that don't need to be dusted). I guess I stick with crickets because they're easiest to get, though I do want to go mainly over to dubias (but I don't want to have to have a colony). I just ordered some butterworms for a Christmas treat, too. :)

That is a good statement..."what you can reasonably offer and keep in stock". I honestly don't see how people mitigate having 5-6 different insects going at the same time. Ive got a tank of breeder dubias...a tank of feeder dubias...and a shoebox of supers. Ill randomly pick up BSFL or a hornworm at petsmart if I am in there but keeping other things would just be too much hassle for me. Supers I will say are my favorite to keep...I order 500 off Ebay at a time and add to the bin...every few days add a piece of root veg and Im done. I change the oatmeal out if it looks to be soiled or whatever. The roaches are a PITA at times...still a lesser evil than crickets...but ya have to separate the babies from the breeders to add to the feed bin and randomly swap out the old breeders with some new adults from the feed bin and then the careful cleaning of frass

Supers, and mealworms are extremely easy to keep in stock like you mentioned. They are so cheap it doesn't make sense not to buy a thousand or 2 at a time usually. So that takes care of 2.

If you are breeding dubia roaches, that takes care of 3. Though I wouldn't really consider breeding them a task. They are pretty self sufficient as long as you provide them food and water.

BSFL can be bought in bulk and stored in a mini fridge set to the proper temp, or just at room temp. I have more dragons than the average person here probably, but still, I can order 2k BSFL and they last me easily a month, without me having to do any work. So there is 4 options right off the bat that require basically no work.

Hornworms, I usually add on to my order if I'm buying any type of bug. And I typically do an order once a month or so for things. They require no care what so ever either. So thats an easy 5.

So there is 5 different feeders right there that all basically require no extra work on your end, besides adding them to your cart online.

You could also buy crickets in bulk and keep them, but this takes more effort than the 5 I mentioned up above, so i'm not considering them a super reasonable insect to keep.
Silkworms also can be "farmed" by simply buying eggs in bulk and hatching yourself. Also, more involved than the other 5 but still doable.

Point is,it really isn't difficult to have multiple feeders on hand. I would be doing literally the same amount of insect work with 2 bugs from that list as I'm doing with 5 bugs right now. It obviously gets tougher if you only have 1 dragon or your dragon isn't eating as many feeders anymore.

Not that I'm saying if you don't offer a variety you're doing it wrong, I just think people don't realize how easy it is to have multiple feeder options available.

And here is the kicker, there is absolutely no negative to providing such a variety, only benefits. So if you can make it happen, you should. And based on how easy it is to keep and store most of our feeder insect options, it doesn't hurt to try.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
