Breeding your own crickets?

It can be done, but they are a pain to care for. They tend to be loud (at warm temperature) and not very hardy. I kept them years ago but switched to dubia roaches and find them much more easy to care for in a colony.
Silk worms are a good option. You can buy eggs in bulk and hatch them in batches. It is helpful to have fresh mulberry leaves available for them to eat. Kingofnobbys has some good posts on how to raise them https://www.beardeddragon.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=222193&p=1722083
Another good (soft) option might be black soldier fly larvae. They are quite small but soft and relatively healthy.
