Inadequate Feeding?

Hello. I was concerned about how much I was feeding my Bearded Dragon. He's 10", and 6 mo. old, and I've had him for about a month. I feed him 1/2-3/4 dubia roach nymphs. I feed him 9 a day with salad made up of kale and bell peppers. Am I feeding him enough? If not, How many should I give him a day? I dust them with Flukers Vitamin-D supplements. I don't want my beardie to be hungry all the time because I don't know what I'm doing. :(

A 10-month-old bearded dragon only needs bugs about 4x/week, so you're probably fine — if anything, he'll be okay if you scale back from daily offerings of insects (https://www.reptifiles.com/bearded-dragon-care-packet/bearded-dragon-insects-supplements-water/). A good rule of thumb is to provide as many bugs as he will eat in 15 minutes.

I would recommend, however, offering more than just dubia roaches. Roaches don't provide linoleic acid, an Omega 6 fatty acid, and a deficiency of that nutrient can cause problems (http://www.moonvalleyreptiles.com/crested-geckos/diet-nutrition/feeder-insects). So go ahead and try things like mealworms, calcium worms, silkworms, etc. He will appreciate the variety, too.

Sorry for responding late, but thankk you so much! I feel like a big weight has been lifted off my chest. And actually, I'm ordering him Phoenix Worms, and I think he'll enjoy them. :wink:

Hi. He's only 10" at 6 months old? That is quite small. He should be fed all the protein he wants to eat twice a day in a 10 to 15 min timeframe each feeding so would definitely recommend increasing what you have been feeding.

Here's a site that shows the best foods to feed in green print. Kale binds calcium so you need to feed some nutritional greens like turnip or mustard greens, dandelion, escarole, endive, etc. http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html
