Weekly feeding schedule

Hello,

I am new to the forum and this is my first post!

I've recently purchased my first bearded dragon and like many new beardie owners my anxiety is very high.

My main concern is how much to feed my beardie. I got him from the pet shop and was told he was around 12-18 months old (although I'm not sure he was 100% sure!). My beardie measures around 17". I'm unsure of his weight but he looks fine.

At the moment he is having greens and some veg in a small bowl one day (which he will begin to eat then after 6-7 mouthfuls he stops) and then the next day crickets/locusts (normally around 6-8- as this was how many I was told to give by the pet shop owner). Once he's finished I put some more greens for him to eat. He might have a few mouthfuls and then leaves it. I then repeat the cycle.

After reading some comments on here, I feel like I'm underfeeding my beardie. I've not wanted to give him more that 6-8 insects in case it causes any digestion problems (although I think he would eat double that!)

I'm looking for someone who can provide a weekly food schedule (with the exact amount of insects). I don't like the "all he can eat in 15 minute rule" just because I don't want to release 20plus and my beardie not to touch any (although I'm sure he would eat them all)! I put insects in his vivarium once at a time at each end of his tank to give him some excercise.

Any help will be much appreciated! I'm just scared of over feeding him or under feeding him.

Hopefully this will work! He has got some scarring to his tail due to previous owners pairing him with an aggressive beardie. However, he has been checked over my a specialist reptile vet and he's healthy. Despite costing £38 my partner who took him didn't take my list of questions hence why I'm on here!! (Men ??)

He's a real character hey !

Suggest you remove the hammock , beardies have long skinny nails that can easily get hooked up in the mesh and in it's attempts to free itself a beardie can do very serious damage to it's nails, toes, feet, hands, arms and legs , hips and shoulders.

I feed my 14 month olds once per day (about 12 LARGE crickets per day + greens and veg).

At 18 months old your's is still not yet full grown or an adult. Still has some growing to do for another 6 months or so, so I recommend you give a feed of good quality insects each day for now.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Advice duly noted. Although I don't think he will be happy as he loves the hammock ?. Better to be safe than sorry though!

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
