why doesn’t he arm wave anymore?

when I got my bearded dragon last year, I was shocked and adored the fact that he could wave.
I only caught him doing it maybe 3-5 times.
there was one time I was feeling very anxious/sad and crying a bit on my chair, and looked up and he was right there at the glass waving.
He doesn’t do it anymore at all, and I’m worried he’s sad or something :/

i’ve actually read that arm waving can be bad. it’s sort of a way of showing they’re scared and submitting to the dominant figure. it might be because they’re used to you or they’re not scared of you anymore. it also can be a way of acknowledging that someone’s there, but being submissive seems to be the more common answer.

This is exactly what it is. It's either submission or acknowledgment of a presence. The fact that he's not waving is actually good. My beardie used to wave whenever the cats entered the room. Now she stands at the glass and stares at them pretty much face to face with no gesture. If they stay for too long she closes her eyes to them which is a sign of trust. The cats don't bother her at all.

Hormones seem to play a big part in this as well. When my guy is darting all over the place like a maniac after brumation with high hormone levels, he will headbob at random things and often nothing, and once in a while I'll see him arm waving at nothing. Just sitting in the middle of the room arm waving. It's not necessarily an object that causes these reactions in every case.
