Just got back from our closest reptile show in White Plains. Manalive, were there some gorgeous reptiles on display - from fringey axolotls to gem-toned leopard geckos, and plenty of lovely beardies, too. Witblits were apparently the dragon of the moment - most people had at least two on display - but there were a wonderful array of citrus and orange and red tones as well. Daichu Dragons was there, with some babies that almost made me regret getting Figment two weeks ago, and unfortunately a lot of dealers who had tanks stuffed full of hatchlings that could have come out of a Petco or Petsmart; these were sometimes almost an afterthought, as the dealers clearly focused on other reptiles primarily.

I was hoping to get some better cage decor for Figment; I was torn between getting a hide sized for an adult beardie, which he could grow into, and getting another climbing perch. I wound up getting neither, as I couldn't find anything that was "just right." So I picked up 50 dubias and 12 hornworms instead, to see if he'd like them (since he definitely doesn't like Phoenix Worms), and a lovely sticker of a beardie pretending to be the Pokemon Charizard. It came from Emily Burke Artwork, and I highly recommend people checking out her website at http://emilyburkeartwork.storenvy.com/ - lovely drawings and more for reptile lovers!

Just got home, fed Figment five of the hornworms (they were small, between 2" and 3") and popped the dubias into a spare cricket keeper with a slice of apple to keep them happy. All in all, it was a good day.

They're fun & eye-opening, aren't they? Glad you had fun! :D

I think you were wise to wait for "just right"; it'll come along, and you'll have no reservations.

I went to a small show yesterday. One vendor had a couple of realistic-looking life-size plastic bearded dragon skeletons. A day later, and I'm still not sure how I feel about them. My weird sense of humor (sitting on one shoulder) cracked up and thought they were funny as heck; OTOH, the guy on the other shoulder thought they were kind of creepy/skeevy. :? Probably just as well they weren't for sale.

I'm guessing you already heard/know about the Saratoga Reptile Expo coming up on the 28th(?)
Someone foisted a flyer on us at another recent show.

I think I'd agree with the little guy going "Kinda creepy and skeevy"! Wierd... we had one guy selling preserved and framed butterflies, insects... and bats. I got the first two, the last one... not so much. I can't see having a taxidermed bat and its skeleton framed on my wall. But then, it takes all kinds to make a world!

Oh yes, but that's a bit too far for us, as we're in western Connecticut. White Plains is the only one we can really get to, though there was one in Poughkeepsie a few years back as well (very small).

Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
