Flea infestation - Suggestions please!

Hi guys,

So I've recently discovered that I've got somewhat of a flea infestation in my backyard (connected through my bedroom) - I've been bitten badly the past week thinking they were mosquitoes and nothing else - but then I actually saw the nasties and yep they're defo fleas.

My backyard is literally a small balcony where we do the laundry and where I'm growing a couple of plants (like rocket and bokchoi for my dragon and tortoise). Now my mum said that they could've sprouted from the soil itself because of my daily watering and the sudden heat waves we've been having (I live in the Mediterranean - it's hell at the moment). And every time I go to water the plants and do laundry (And I sometimes leave my dragon running about in there whilst I'm doing those activities - not any more though!) I get attacked by them and they stick to my clothes and I unintentionally end up bringing them inside.

What can I do to get rid of them please? I'd rather not use pesticide because of the plants (esp the ones I feed to myself and my reptiles) Oh and we have no dogs or cats that could've carried the fleas - but my neighbours above me have a cat I think, but I doubt how that would've happened.

Any suggestions please?

RID or Aerogard sprayed on your lower legs will keep them off you..
Or move somewhere where there are not as many flees.

and if you have a furry pet (cat or dog) treat it to eradicate it's flee infestation. The flees are there because they have a ready source of food.

This may sound strange, but organic coconut oil works to repel fleas. The fleas don't like it because they get stuck in it and die so they try to avoid it. It does need to be used in conjunction with something else to kill them sometimes. Tea tree oil can be handy for this.

If there are fleas in your backyard, buy nematodes and spread them in the grass. They are essentially a parasite to fleas and do a good job of killing them, but they do not harm animals or humans.

I have a dog with severe allergies so when he had fleas we've used these methods and they definitely helped to get rid of them.

I've decided to remove my plants entirely and steralise the area. (I'm covered in bites myself from head to toe and its driving me insane!)

Also, cinnamon oil or clove oil may help too & they are all natural, too.
