Well after 8 months with Ouros we are sure he is mentally retarded. Bit of a list of issues.
As a baby he kept eating his tail and earned him his name, he literally ate as much as he could reach.
Growing up in a large glass terrarium he would bang his head on the glass til he too injured to keep it up, or too tired, would even run and ram it. Covering it up he climbed over the covers to bang his head at the top. We finally got him a huge 75 gallon solid wood one, and had to draw "bars" on the windows so he would stop banging his head on it. Sill have to get him off it sometimes and put him in a smaller box with no windows til he calms down.
He attacked his CHE and cooked himself...it was as smaller 75watt one for night time, no temp issues according to the temp gun. But he cooked himself a bit, thankfully he was shedding at the time and mostly scortched the stuff falling off on his chin.
We let him out daily, he has a basking light set up to stay warm under....he will run to the colder areas or even the freezing cold concrete at times....we find him a few mins after ice cold, unable to move his arms/legs, following us with his eyes. We then have to move him back to the warm spot til he warms back up....and he repeats.
For awhile he was scared of all crickets, and only ate dubia, he will eat freeze dried, or roasted ones if he has nothing else.
He often gets confused and angry, most days completely tame and will eat out of your hand if you offer a treat like a roach or berry. Other days he is complete ape **** and will tail whip you and lunge and attack your hand when you open it to change out the salad or water....I have some battle scars guy leaves nasty blood blisters and V shaped nips.
Sorta fitting really, I am a adult with Asperger, Bipolar, Adhd, Celiac, UC, I wonder if this is what my parents felt like dealing with me as a kid powerless to do anything but watch and feel sorry trying to make me comfortable.
