Scratching and Diarrhea While on Enrofloxacin: HELP!

I took my dragon to a vet that doesn't specialize in reptiles but she saw my dragons before and they recovered from a parasitic infection. He has a respiratory infection but she didn't do tests to figure out what is causing it... I noticed my dragon does occasional scratching on his rock or when I pick him up to give meds and food (he isn't eating so I have to force feed Hills Urgent Care A/D). He is also seeming to be having slight diarrhea but it's mostly just liquid and urate unless I give him food. I have him Reptivite mixed in water and only noticed him having this diarrhea after that (may just be a coincidence). I have him on a heating pad on the lowest setting with three shirts as layers in bed with me and noticed that he had peed in his sleep (urate and liquid). I haven't been able to give him probiotics cause it's delayed in shipping until 6PM tonight (Monday) which I most likely won't be able to get until tomorrow (I hope it arrives and is available before then but everyone knows how Walmart is :( ). Can anyone tell me if this is an allergic reaction to the medication or is it just normal?

Hello,

So sorry your dragon is having diarrhea. I can't guarantee that is from the Baytril, but it can
sometimes make them ill.
I honestly don't really like them being fed the Hills A&D canned food. Is it cat or dog food?
I think that is way too high of protein for reptiles, personally. That could cause some tummy
distress. Instead, you could try making a greens slurry, mixed with chicken or turkey baby food
with Pedialyte & vitamins, etc for him.
Is his beard black at all?
Which probiotic did you order?
I recommend continuing to keep him a little warmer overnight, around 80, to help boost his
system since he isn't feeling well. The heating pad is just fine with clothing in between him
& the pad. How did the vet determine reasoning to prescribe the Baytril/Enroflaxin?
What is the strength of the solution & what is his dose?

Let us know how he is doing.

His diarrhea has completely stopped now. The probiotic I've been giving him is Bene-Bac Plus for birds and reptiles. I was thinking of doing that as well since I don't really like giving him dog/cat food either. :/ I'm going to try and find a reasonable blender today to make him a smoothie type of meal. I appreciate you mentioning the chicken and turkey baby food. I always thought of doing that for them but wasn't too sure if it was the right option. His beard was black but since the vet switched him to ceftazidime injections he's doing a lot better. He's alert and trying to get around (still weakly though). She also took x-rays (which found no fluids in his lungs or any other problems) and took some blood work. She sent them out yesterday to a lab and a specialist to get them tested and looked at at. My room is always around 70-73 degrees F so that's the reasoning for the heating pad. The humidity is relatively low at night due to the weather (around 29-38%) and his tank is always in the 20-25% range during the day. Oh, and the solution that she had him on for when he was on the Baytril was 0.06% every 24hrs. He is now on the ceftazidime for 2 weeks (injection yesterday, Friday, and then the last 2 next week).

Hello,

That's good to hear your girl isn't having diarrhea now. The benebac powder for birds & reptiles
will hopefully help out. Give 1/8th or so of a teaspoon daily to help with GI distress help.
So he is doing better on the Ceftz injection now, than he was on the oral Baytril? The Ceftz is
a little less harsh than the Baytril, but since it is still an antibiotic do stick with the probiotics
for a few weeks for him.
Using the undertank heater for him overnight is fine. Be sure to keep a towel in between him
& the heating pad just so he doesn't get too hot. I hope he is feeling better & gets stronger.
Let us know how he is doing.

Yes, he's doing a lot better and is able to move better now. His head tremors are gone as well. I finally got him on proper food (collard and turnip greens with turkey and butternut squash baby foods) mixed in a blender. He's been a piggy with that! :D The probiotics are helping a lot too. I give a half a tsp of that a day and I'm waiting for the calcium to come in to add that with his food. I have to give him his second injection of Ceftz tomorrow so I hope that goes well.

Hello,

That is really good to hear he isn't having diarrhea anymore. So the head tremors are gone
now also?
How did the second injection for him go, did you have any trouble?
At least he liked the nutritious slurry you made for him, they usually do like the flavors of
them. The probiotics should help quite a bit also. :D
I hope he continues to feel better & gets back to normal real soon. Keep us updated on him.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
