I was hoping someone could help me. I’m worried about my new beardie. She is my very first.. she’s about a year old. My uncle gave her to me. She has a heat lamp and a uvb light, she’s in a 40 gallon tank with calci sand as substrate and she has a piece of drift wood to bask and also a rock. I got her 3 days ago and she has not drank any water, she ate 1 blueberry and 1 cricket 2 days ago but that’s it. I tried soaking her because I was worried about dehydration but she freaked out. She was scratching at the glass a few days ago so I got her out and she seemed okay (really drawn to my picture window) I let her hang out on a pillow and she looked out the window for a while but then I put her back. Since then she has burried herself in sand and has been sleeping in the same position for days. I thought maybe she was bruminating but I’m still a little worried as this is only the third day I’ve had her I want to make sure I’m doing everything right. Can anyone help me?!

Okay so my guess is bad uvb, bad substrate and relocation stress is the problem.

Calci sand when digested turns to concrete in the stomach of really anything which then causes the animal to get impacted and die a slow painful death. Any particle substrates can do this however calci-sand is one of the most common and deadly out of most of them. You'll want to get a bag and clean all of it out and put white paper towels down. And then once shes feeling better you could choose whether to keep it that way or go with tile, non adhesive shelf liner, AstroTurf , some sort of reptile carpet or non toxic news paper.

As for your uvb light make sure it is a 22" or 34" reptisun or arcaidia T5 HO 10.0 tube light with a reflective fixture. If it is not that then you can get on amazon and order one.

Thank you for replying, I will check with my uncle I’m not sure what kind of lighting he gave me. He provided me with this whole set up which is what she’s been living in since she was a baby but I will definitely look into another option for substrate and the lighting situation. If you have any other advice or concerns please let me know! I am trying to educate myself as best I can so she can be the happiest and healthiest little dragon :) thank you.

Definitely needs new lighting, compact/coil bulbs dont give off enough uvb which can cause stunted growth, no appetite, MBD/calcium deficiency.

This uvb bulb and fixture should give her correct uvb so she can live her full 15-20 years.

I created something a bit ago, mostly to help myself with the diet but if you want go ahead and take a look at it. Though theres tons more info on here than there.

Getting ready for another day. Feeling sleepy. 😴
I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
Finally replaced Swordtail's substrate
I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.
