i have a 12 week old beardie i got 2 weeks ago. When we got him he was eating about 10 crickets in the morning and salad in the afternoon and about 5 crickets in the evening about 2 hours before lights out. We went away for a weekend and gave him to a friend to babysit for us, he apparently ate upwards of 70 1/4 size crickets in 2 days. Now hes been home for a week and wont touch crickets at all. Hes hardly even eating greens. He will eat wax worms but thats it and thats not good for him as a staple. His basking temps or in the 90s and cooler temos 80s and at night time 70s. I really dont know what is wrong and have no idea where to turn. No signs of shedding and hes a bit more skitttish as well. Nothings changed in his tank, its the perfect size for him so idk whats wrong.

Sand has been swapped out for reptile carpet about a day after we got him. Pet store gave us bad advice at first.

Wax worms? Not a very experienced owner here, but could it be that he is addicted to waxies and has learned you'll give him them if he holds out? How often did he get waxworms prior to this?

no im not experienced, im still learning hence why i came here asking for help. He has only had a couple. We got it as a treat and gave him only small ones. Anyhow this morning i decided to put the crickets in the fridge for a couple of minutes and slow them down and he did eat about 5, so progress. Maybe hes intimidated by them all of sudden? Not sure. I didnt give him more wax worms yesterday or the day before just kept offering crickets and greens. I plan on avoiding the worms for a while untill he gets back on a proper feeding schedual. He seems happier today than he was yesterday. But i did intially think that he was possibly holding out, but he wont chase the crickets anymore they have to at least appear dead for him to eat them.

That's good that he ate the crickets, :) just keep offering those now twice a day rather than the waxworms. You can also stun or slow them by shaking them up pretty hard in a jar with a pinch of calcium powder until they're weak + wobbly, then drop them right near him 3-4 at a time. As he eats them, just shake up a few more + keep feeding until he's done.

I miss you so much, Amaris 💔
What is a quick way to warm up a cold beardie? His heating element went out overnight and now he's very cold.

i feel so sad reading your about me 😢
Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
