Beebz is awake now, but still has no appetite.

Thanks for responding. Beebz did just reach a year old a couple weeks back. And he's definitely on the large end of the adult size at over 23" long. I guess I just assumed his transition to eating less would be more gradual. He got like this before his semi-brumation. Then he'd go weeks...

Beebz is awake now, but still has no appetite.

So Beebz finally woke up from (semi) Brumation about a month ago. He is spending a lot of time basking again and is pretty much back to his old activity level. My concern is he still eats very little. He gets salad everyday and will normally take a bite or two at some point during the day...

    Do his legs look swollen?

Beebz forearms looked a lot like that at that size. Sometimes I'd think they looked a little puffy too but he never had any issues so i think that's just how they look at times.

Here is the link of the new feeding method which severely restricts the amount given to baby beardies and the rationale behind it.

Yup that was the post I was referring to. It explains a lot of the nuance that is missed by the more popular guides. Especially the sizing info.

I agree. In fact I think @AHBD ought to make a feeding guide because that post was more informative and detailed than just about anything I could find out there when I was a new owner looking for info!

Ok well I took the time to watch the guide and it does track pretty well with Dr. Howard's recommendations. The only thing that I don't remember from the interview was 30g being the cutoff point where he suggested you swap to every other day feeding. I don't have the same vitriol towards the...

I haven't had a chance to watch the video in the OP but I did watch the 4 hour video that I believe they are pulling the info from. One of the take aways was while "bearded vet" recommended smaller feeding portions he made a point to caveat most of his concerns like calcium deficiency as not...

    Blueberries

This is the best link to the study I could find. It cuts the sections off but it looks like you have to pay for full access. What I got was a pamphlet.. I don't have it anymore but I think I found a pdf version of it I'd I can get it to attach.

    Blueberries

When I took Beebz in to the vet I was given a paper of a recent study showing fruits contribute to dental disease in Dragon's. So he gets a blueberry like once a month now, and I try to do it when he's going to eat a hard bodied insect after to help clean off his teeth. It does seem like he...

    Brumation at 9-10mo?

Thanks guys I'll keep up with his salads and offer bugs every other day when he's out and about and not pester him about eating them if he isn't interested.

    Brumation at 9-10mo?

Ok so when Beebz decides he wants to sit in his cave for a day or a week I should just let him be? He has been pretty sluggish for around a month now (at least) and finicky about eating so it sounds like that tracks with how Zen behaves. I guess I'll just offer food on days he's active and...

    Brumation at 9-10mo?

*facepalm* So I just checked on him and was greeted with this: Is it still brumation-like behavior when they hide for a week then come out and bask? Before this last time he had taken to spending a day or two in his hide a couple times a week before coming out like this. I'm even more...

    Brumation at 9-10mo?

No don't apologize, I really value your opinion. I wondered about the German giant thing as he blew away all the size estimates in resources I found. I'm glad he looks healthy. He was fed a lot as a little guy but every time I thought he might be getting a little chubby he'd add a bunch of...

    Brumation at 9-10mo?

Thank you for the responses. @xp29 As far as hydration goes he hasn't wanted water dripped on his snout since he was just a couple months old. His poop has always been moist so I've not been concerned about it. I'll try the dripping again now that he not eating to see if he accepts it now...

    Brumation at 9-10mo?

Looking around the forum it seems like this is the time of year for Brumation to start. I'm a little concerned about Beebz as I thought it was uncommon for Dragons to Brumate when they were under a year old but Beebz has stayed in his hide about a week now. He is not fully asleep and will...

    Introducing Beebz

Beebz is huge: He had a good day today and spent some time exploring He's very proud of himself here as it took him a couple attempts to work up the courage to climb high enough to see out the window. He's taken to spending about half his days in his hide. I'm not sure if he's thinking...

Snickers Doodles new basking platform 😋

Woah that's a work of art. I believe you told me once you weren't gifted artistically... that was obviously a lie :p. I love how you were able to give her so much space. Was it difficult to keep everything level with the relatively small "foot" you made? I know you mentioned the wood glue...

How Much Should My Beardie Be Eating (and What Do I Do?)

You got good advice on the rest. Just chiming in to say your Dragon may well outgrow that enclosure a lot faster than you anticipated. Between shipping times and getting the enclosure set up I ended up having Beebz in a much too small enclosure far longer than anticipated. So avoid my...

    Bowel movements have increased?

Definitely sounds to me like the Squash just overhydrated him a little bit. What is the strength of the new light uvb bulb and how far is it above his basking site? Is it obstructed by a screen? You said it seemed more powerful. If it is for example a 14% bulb at a short distance unobstructed...

    Best Feeders For Juvenile Beardies?

Every source I've been able to find puts mealworms macro-wise (Protein/Fat/Carbs) as very similar to BSFL. They don't have as much calcium, even after subtracting the ~60% of the undigestible calcium, as BSFL. I'm sure there are other differences in micronutrients and exactly what sorts of...
