Coil lighting is very bad and most on here would recommend that you do not use it at all. Coil lighting has erratic fluctuations in UV levels and can cause blindness in your BD. The very best light Is a Mercury Vapor Blub, it has the highest levels a UVB which is what your dragon needs. You can also use the Floresent repta Sun 10. which is what alot of people use. However, I have been starting to hear negitive things about it, that they are alos dangerious, but I am unclear as to why. I have not heard anything bad about the MVB's. Alothought they are more expensive your dragon will be much healthyer in the long run. Im not sure where youa re located but I buy mine from Reptile Supply.com they seem to be the lest expensive. I use the Solor Glo For exoterra 125 watt for my 55 gallon tank. I woudl only reccomenda higher wattage if you have a very very large Viv.
Take care!

I just picked up a repti glo 10.0uvb flouredcent - is there a difference between repti sun and repti goo other than brand?

Well you would need to read it, but I believe one prolly produces just UVA and not UVB. Yes they name changes with brands I have a lighting guide from Exoterra and all of the "Sun Glo" Blubs seem to be just UVA basking blubs no UVB. Some of the Repta Glo's only produce UVA as well, exept for the 10.0. Your Repta Glo 10,0 is used by many people and it should be fine. Usually it seems from my experiance that the blubs marked "Sun" etc. mimic heat and UVA from the sun (sun replicating blub) however they dont have the UVB.

Yes, there is a difference between these bulbs. The reptiSUN has been well tested and is a tried and proven good UVB source for dragons. The reptiGLO 10.0 is a newer bulb that has had issues with causing eye problems in some dragons since it was released. I believe the risks associated with this bulb can be reduced/removed if you pair it with a second normal flourescent light bulb (i.e. from the hardware store) that puts off lots of bright light.

Basically the good UVB bulbs are:

flourescent tubes - resptiSUN 10.0, reptiSUN 5.0, reptiGLO 8.0
mercury vapor bulbs - megarays, t-rex active heat

Many of the other bulbs out there are either heat bulbs which put off no UVB, or for one reason or another are insufficient/bad for use with a dragon. Of course, if you live in a different part of the world, the good brands available to you are different. For instance, Acadia I beleive is a good flourescent tube bulb but we don't see it around here.

K :p:p Umm, I guess i have it figured out, i need to go from a Repti-glo 10.0 UVB compact to a reptisun 10.0 UVB, and from a 50W basking spot light to 75W.

It can be confusing because the bulb names are similar.
Yes, the RetiSUN 10 (long tube) bulb is best for UVB. As for heat a regular (not energy efficient bulb) will do. The wattage you use depends on your enclosure and what temps you get.

Awe.. I need a long-tube version? Not just one that screws in the top? Because I have 2 regular round lamps with the bulbs that just screw in from the top. I guess I need to buy a new bulb-holder ( or whatever they're called ), huh.

Yes, a long tube or a mercury vapor bulb instead if your enclosure is at least a 40 gallon breeder tank. Coil and compact bulbs aren't very good and have caused problems.

I bought my light fixture from Wal-mart for about $10. Hardware stores sell them too.

Go with the tube then. Long tube, not coil or compact. You can also use the tube light when you get a bigger tank later on. The tube lights need to be replaced every 6-7 months.

Alright, Will do! I guess I'm gonna need a top from Primo's enclosure. 'Cause obviously, the light can't just be floating there.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
