UVB lighting

If you are in the US, your best bet is to get a tube style UVB (arcadia 12% or zoomed 10.0 HO) that spanns about 2/3 of your tank.

If you are in the EU you probably have access to a mhb but I think they are hard to get elsewhere.

Hi, US here! Years ago we were able to buy fixtures at Walmart, than just purchase the tube. Can we no longer do that for 40g breeders? Do we have to purchase the hood combos?

You want a hood w/ a reflector

If you find a cheap fixture you should be able to put any of those tube into it. As long as the lenght matches obviously.
You don't need to always get them as a combo...

You need a tube and a fixture, these are sold separately.
Non-reptile "household use" (like e.g. for over the sink, over the stove) fixtures for tube lights are not available in many countries anymore. But nevertheless, it should be a fixture with a reflector which, as far as I remember, standard "household use" ones were not. So get a fixture (hood) with a reflector as sold for reptiles.
E.g. from Arcadia, Zoomed.
